this and that

In the past couple of weeks, I've re-rendered all of chapter 1 of Absinthe twice. Once to print via Createspace, once to print via Lulu again. The one for Createspace was aborted when I discovered they have a 100M upload limit; thirty-eight full-page full-color 300dpi images is nearly twice that. Drat. I was hoping to be able to pass their lower cost on to y'all, but I'm not willing to futz around with lossy compression.
I'll be uploading what I'm hoping is the last PDF to Lulu as soon as it finishes exporting from Indesign. Third time, they say, is the charm.
Yesterday Nick and I went out to look at whales, as part of a group Cassandra organized. The seas were pretty choppy as we set out, due to the tropical storm passing through earlier; I thought I was going to be okay but I ended up being one of the people who got seasick. In one of the many barf bags provided for the purpose by the cruise. Oddly enough what really pushed me over the edge was taking some Dramamine to try and counteract my growing unease; the absolutely foul taste of the pill, combined with the effects of other people nearby being sick, made me lose my stomach contents.
But we did see whales! I didn't see as much of them as people who were in good condition - I was still kinda queasy - but I was able to move around the boat enough to catch some glimpses of them.
This was the first time I'd ever been out on the sea. Interestingly enough, when I closed my eyes I was still kinda visualizing the waves as they moved the boat; I was still getting a bit of a sort of shifting frame of reference with my eyes closed later in the afternoon, after we got back home. I guess that was part of the process of my brain trying to adapt to the constant, semi-predictable motion...
