Yesterday,
read_alicia took me and Nick to Inman Oasis for an hour-long dip in a hot tub. It was pretty awesome; it was really great to be so WARM in the middle of winter.
A little too warm, in fact. I ignored a few warnings and spent more time in the tub than I quite should have and almost fainted from heatstroke when I got out. I knew what was going on as I'd had something similar happen once before, when I was a kid; this time I knew that I was perfectly fine and really just needed cold water and a chance to sit still and let my temperature return to normal. Both of which I got. The bathroom was especially helpful, thanks to the cold tiles sucking heat out of my feet once I got there.
This time, though, I got visuals.
I got shapes of the kind of flickering granular static you see when your eyes are closed, in bands of distortion and perfect clarity. And oddly enough, the little aperture of clear vision in the center of my view was in the shape of a perfect five-pointed star, about the size of my thumbnails held together at arm's length, with rays of shimmer radiating out from it. I almost wanted to read it as a Penrose tiling of clarity and shimmernoise
Once I returned to normal, I had to say that it was a pretty interesting experience, as near-faintings go!
Then we went out to Trader Joe's and got foodstuff. I decimated a box of lemon cookies and felt completely recovered.
