a great day

I had the most awesome day today.

Yesterday, I managed to manage the expectations of my current freelance client, and gain some breathing space. And some cash. I went to the bookstore on my way home and got a few things - picking up a replacement copy of Fairies, and pondering if I wanted or didn't want a few other things I used to have is what prompted the post last night about the long-term effects of losing my library. I walked home with my nose in a Discworld book I hadn't read yet, had some ice cream, and didn't really talk to anyone. So that was pretty damn good.

This morning, Nick and Rik hopped in a rental car with Illy, who'd been visiting us for a week and a half or so. They drove to New Jersey. I was invited but I chose not to come - instead I got a lift out to Davis Square, and had some ice cream, deposited a check from Artspots, then went to the art store and spent thirty bucks on, well, a handful of pencils and pens. (As a side note, Artspots is pretty kick-ass in the gallery-with-print-sales department: they give you the money pretty quickly, and they have some really nice paper available. And they take Illustrator source files. And they're no longer furry only.) I got some hair bleach but I haven't used it yet.

I came home and didn't have talk to anyone for the rest of the day. At all. I played a mindless little video game on Rik's machine. I went out on the porch and looked at the sky for a bit. It was fucking awesome.

Maybe I'll be ready to be social next weekend. This weekend, I might not say a single word.

That must be a new thing.. yes? I got an image kicked for not being 'furry enough'.

Yeah, it's something they added in the end of December - when you upload a piece, you now have five boxes to check or uncheck: furry, science fiction, fantasy, cartooning, and realistic. Furry is checked by default, the others off, but you can stick it in any category you like. And people can choose to just see furry stuff when browsing if they want to pretend it's 1995 on Yerf.

"realistic"... Unless they mean wildlife art, oh lawls. Furclumpies ahoy.
Still, that's a nice thing and makes me feel better about having a gallery there.

I love it. Talking to people is work.

I hope you'll be at least a little social soon. I'd love to get together for some tea/sketch time in the Square if you're up for it.

And perhaps this ArtSpots thing is worth looking into?

When're you going to be in town? I've lost track.

Dude! I'm gonna MAKE you go hang with him, and tag along if you don't mind. You need to go run and frolic with other artists. :)

17th-27th. The first weekend's already booked, but I'll be staying in Cambridge, the Square being only a nice mile walk. I can meet for tea and sketching easily and happily. Lots to talk about, I'm sure!

Oh, yeah, I'll be social by then. I just really want to avoid anything this coming weekend because I've had to deal with lots of people besides my boyfriends since the beginning of the year!

Bliss.

I got a birdfeeder for Xmas and it's embarrassing how much time I spend somewhere out in alpha-land just watching tiny birds. So I can relate to skygazing in a way.

Artspots has expanded? I'm intrigued...but still terrified of their screening procedure. I'm sure my little watercolor doodles wouldn't pass...especially since I'm of the 'omg no background' school of cartoony doodling.

I'd love someplace not nearly so...insane/massive/overwhelming/inane...as Deviant Art though.

I have no idea what their screening requirements are any more. And I'm quite sure that there are the official, written-down ones, and the ones that're actually applied.

It also seems that their no-entrance-requirements face, JaxPad, offers the exact same print program.

This bit, it has Explanatory Power.

There are reasons I was off by myself for enough of my life to become good at drawing and animation and decent at programming.
