Using the hibernate hack prefpane (scroll down, on the left) on my powerbook is great for conserving power for a trip, but it leaves the machine completely confused as to how much battery power is left. I ran unplugged for like an hour, playing music with visuals enabled (GForce, this week), despite the system thinking I'm at 0% battery.

Good thing running it all the way down until the machine just does a low-level emergency sleep, then plugging it back in, worked to reset this.

Meanwhile, a Spotlight file system is an interesting hack, though I have things generally well-organized enough that I never use Spotlight anyway...

Wow, thank you for pointing out SpotlightFS! While that in itself is completely useless to me, you've brought to my attention the fact that FUSE has been ported to OS X, which means I can play with nifty things like WikipediaFS.

More usefully, I can now use SSHFS on my Mac, and I plan to also try hacking CurlFtpFS into an app that I can associate with FTP links and use in the stead of OS X's built in FTP support. Hmm!
