bus doodles ahoy
Jun. 4th, 2004 02:54 pmThis is from a couple days. I'm going to split it up into several entries.
First, there's some Amanita/Twin scrawls over in my Puzzlebox-stuff journal.

Checking to see if I can draw those fun 'taur things again. Seems so. That day was a pretty scribbly scrawly scratchy morning; the problems I had drawing them were due to that, no trouble with their anatomy.
I like the term "standing hand" for the lower ones; it has the right ring. I've seen other terms like "foothand" used (by the praying-mantis-like Thranx from Alan Dean Foster's stuff, I believe) but they didn't sound right. I'm not sure if they have a term to casually refer to "hand on the upper humanoid portion"; I'm inclined to overload "hand" to refer to any of the four, with the assumption that it's probably an upper one.
Now that I'm laid off, I hope to do that 24-hour comic soon! (Along with other crap like "getting back on unemployment" and "looking for work" and "finishing the portfolio and spreading it around".)

Far-off woman at the subway station. Scribble scratch fragments at the top of the page had the Peganthyrus nature, so I wondered briefly if she was back so soon. Kinda looks like not. Or maybe she's evolving in the back of my head into a character who is Not Me; that's definitely not my hair...

hallu on and off because tentacles are fun and there was an exchange about costume design in the comments of one of her pieces on DA. Also I like that thing on the right with the crazy headfins (petals?).

Date: 2004-06-04 12:02 pm (UTC)I was doing some doodley taurgirl sketchies in my printmaking class while listening to the Prof ramble and the student beside me was sorta watching as I sketched and remarked, "Hey...uh...Why do the hawt babes got fours legs yo?" I am amused.
Keep up the awesome sketchingness, I love seeing them.

Date: 2004-06-04 01:21 pm (UTC)my god, the people in your class talk like that? Aieee.
It's still weird that these taurgirls are so much fun to draw. Normall I hate all the anatomy involved with taurs, especially the hipneck area. But these... they're just fun, and the complete fakery of anatomy doesn't bother me. Maybe because they're mine and they're not bound by anyone's expectations of realism but my own.

Date: 2004-06-04 04:33 pm (UTC)That's why I like drawing those little otter things. They're -mine- and I know how they're put together, and, with practice, think I can make them "sing." That's what you do with your taurgirls, and perhaps that's why I was drawn to them in the first place and why I bug you so much about them. (see comment on last entry) I think the taurgirl's a start to something bigger, or could be. "Drowning City" seems to rely more on the story or concept than on a simple style or character as the taurgirls do, so that's perhaps why it initially grabs me more. We can SEE that you like to draw her.

Date: 2004-06-05 09:24 am (UTC)The petal-head looks like some variation on Twin; another sentient, but less spacey and more floral. And a little more regal, too. ^^
