  • Most people there looking for employees were looking for 3D jockeys. This is not that surprising. It was somewhat depressing given how little interest I have in 3D.
  • I think I found and very much impressed one of the few places that was there looking for someone like me. No details in public yet 'cause nothing's been signed; I'll just say that it certainly fits into my decision to shift from animation to freelance illustration.
  • I saw a 360° monitor in the 'Emerging Technologies' section of the show and was, honestly, kinda unimpressed, Am I jaded? Okay, it was kinda flickery and small, but even so: 3D video, I should be going "WOW", shouldn't I?
  • My one major thought from the art show: Is it just me, or is "unease" the only emotion that video-loop artists are interested in provoking?
  • Coolest thing in "Emerging Technologies": a group up in Canada who'd made these crazy bluetooth/wifi-rigged dresses that... let you share a sense of each others' breathing. Really intimate and wonderful idea. I want some.
  • Dreamworks is doing a movie based on the comic strip "Over the Hedge". It took me a minute or two to make the connection between the poster and the strip because the generic 3D versions of the characters have none of the charm or style of the drawings. Geeze, at least that scary-looking "Garfield" movie tried for a synthesis between reality and the strip.

I don't know if I'm going to go back tomorrow. I did the business portion; I might go watch the (all 3D) animation program, or faff about with high-end tools in the Guerilla Studio. We shall see. I think I really did all the job-hunt stuff there is to do.
