At the moment, I have little blobs of pink latex stuck in my hair. They will be there until I get the right stuff to dissolve it. But this was totally worth it - as the latex was being used to affix a couple of little horns to my head. They were disgustingly cute. No pictures because we're lazy but I'm quite sure I'll be doing this again soon! I may even look into how to cast this sort of thing myself and make something a bit more extravagant...

We went out to the airport to see Nick off for the weekend - he's going back home for his grandmother's 90th birthday. Then me and Rik went to [livejournal.com profile] eggshellhammer's place and played Settlers of Catan with his roomie and two of their friends. Dunno if I really like that game; it didn't help that one of the people involved has clearly played it a lot whereas it was the second and third time I'd ever played in my life. But I had fun regardless!

Really, today was mostly about games, as before we went off to the airport, me and the guys played some Race for the Galaxy and some Cosmic Encounter. Which Rik is beginning to at least understand if not like; we really need to get a drunken five-player game going sometime!

Vegetable oil is good for getting out latex :)

I had to get creative when my masking fluid bottle exploded and got everywhere...

Yeah, I think I need to go down to the store today and grab some. Or some baby oil - I'd rather not smell quite as much like cooking!

I know some people who play Cosmic Encounter variants. Double-power is ok as long as you don't let people have certain combinations (e.g. Virus and Macron), but double-blind double-power usually calls for arbitrators.

First we need to get Rik comfortable with the basic game. sigh.

I'm still iffy on the basic game of Cosmic Encounter, myself. *shrug* Be warned, however; Kristy and I have been playing a hell of a lot of RftG, and I think it's safe to say we're equally adept at it by now, so next time we get to visit, I certainly will join in. Bwa-ha-ha!

I think my skills at RftG have ossified; I have trouble doing even halfway decently nowadays - or maybe it's just that when we play against someone who is not ourselves, it's against [livejournal.com profile] raxvulpine who has become rather obsessive about playing it, and is totally brutal...

I haven't even bothered logging games to BGG lately, and have only played occasionally, I have been much too busy with other things. Good things, so it's actually fine, but Yelena's been beating me around 40% lately so either she's Race-cheating on me or I'm really slipping. It definitely ossifies fast; it comes back quickly for me, too, but my brain was precision-engineered by some sort of gamer fetishist so that part might not work so well for you. :)

I played a couple two-player games against Rik last night (the first time I'd ever done the two-player version) and very rapidly kicked his ass in the first game because I was thinking really hard - then completely foundered in the second one because I got a hand full of low-value shit that I just couldn't turn into something worth a damn. There's a particular kind of shitty hand that I just always founder with; I really need to sit down and work out what to DO to recover from it.

I played two-player with my roommate recently, and I've found that some kinds of two-player games that have a lot of racing or competition can be pretty discouraging. If you feel like you don't have the right cards to win, you immediately know whose going to. Less so in multiplayer games where you can just give up trying, sit back and watch the remaining players battle it out.

Also, yeah, I've gotten the shitty hand a lot. The only thing to do with that is to set up something that gives you more cards, or go deep-exploring a lot, but all of those waste game rounds that other people spend setting up a kickass tableau and ending the game quickly. So it's really hard to have time to recover. Maybe there should be a house action card like, say, 'exodus' or 'genocide' or something that nukes your entire hand once per game and refreshes.

Honestly, there's a point for me where I just want to quit. Multiplayers suck because people will bitch about you ruining the balance of it if you bow out. (Of course, it's also good to avoid playing with people who insist that...) Two-player RftG, you can say 'Okay, I'm fucked, you're running great, I concede"

I'm not a huge fan of Settlers, but Starfarers is kinda fun. Cute plastic rocket ships that you shake to roll movement.

Don't know if you guys have played Galaxy Truckers, but there's an expansion now that we just got. Lots of fun new parts, plus some rather nasty things to make the game even harder than it already is. :-P

Little pink blobs on someone's hair?
That does sound disgustingly cute. ♡

I'm glad you had a good time.
I had that experience with games before though. XD
I was at a party & everyone is wanting me to play Kingdom Hearts 2.
I'm like "I haven't played it in years."
[My brother stole my game a day after I got it. >_>;;;]
