The Root of the Powers of Earth.

And the last of the Aces!

If you remember my original sketch, you might be wondering what happened to her cock. It's still there; it's just really, really subtle.

Print available on Artspots.

And while I'm at it... here's the other three Aces.

I think I did mark it as 'not quite for kids' over there...

These are gorgeous! Love the quadruple breasted pregnant woman.

The Ace of Wands is packin' a wand alright! woo *fans self*

Thanks!

I think the wand's been stirring the cup, if you know what I mean. Nudge nudge.

Digging the mask-face motif so much.

Usually people just do a hand coming out of a cloud clutching the suit symbol, but that just didn't work for me. Masks felt more me.

The masks are very cool and the Aces are in fact... aces. That top one, though, that lovely shift of green to gentle blue is really amazing. I hope it's not lost in the printing. One of the dangers of painting in light.

I make sure everything is done with a color profile, which always seems to help. And I always work in the CMYK gamut, so that's not going to be out of bounds for print... We shall see, though.

I don't see Wand's wand, can you point me at the original sketch?

Like them all, of course.

why did you make it so ultra subtle?

'Cause I didn't want to stick high-contrast hard cock in people's faces. That's a confrontational line I didn't feel like crossing.

edit: also there may be some mac-vs-windows gamma curve issues going on; what's subtle on my screen often ends up invisible on others'.

Yes, re: Gamma curve.

I can just barely see it on my work machine, can't see at all at home. Both are Windows.

There will, then, be a few subtelties you'll only see in a printed copy! Cool.

It's almost barely visible on my screen, but then I'm on an iMac laptop LCD screen, with harsh flourescent and halogen-arc warehouse lighting...so not entirely normal conditions. I had to shift my head off to the side to get better contrast. Still, I like the subtlety (and the cock itself), hope it translates to glossy cardstock well.

I just came back to this entry (via the day/date printed in the corner of the image -- this kind of 'connectivity' of your cards to the journal entries where they were created/presented utterly rocks!) to do some color research while fixing a problem. Check your email for details on it.

FYI -- your 'subtlety' worked in the printed version, but you'll have to be careful on how you light it! Lit right, you don't notice the Ace's Wand at all... but stop and look at it under at least halfway decent lighting, and it's definitely right there. Gives you something to find when you gaze at it instead of just glance past, thus removing the whole 'OMG-peener!' effect you were trying to avoid. The only way to force it to stand out is to backlight the image (which still works pretty cool).

And yeah, just for fun, try converting it to RGB then hypering up the green channel and dropping the blacks down. The result is pretty stunning, if not what you intended. Don't worry, found that problem, fixed it. :) But in general your cards do look pretty neat hypersaturated.

The gallery should definitely be well-lit enough that people will be able to see the wand if they look. Although it would be kinda funny if someone bought this one without noticing the cock, until much later - even better if someone they're trying to seduce is the one to point it out! *snicker*

And HOLY FUCK OW GREEEEEEN. I wonder if there'll end up being a run of the final deck that ends up oversaturated. It'll be the EXTRA NAILS IN YOUR EYES edition.
