I just saw the most beautiful halo around the sun.

I think it was one of these though it was a little more defined due to the particular clouds hovering between me and our local star, and the sun not actually being visible from where I was sitting.

Sometimes I think I ought to see the sky a lot more. There's a lot more up there than 'blue sky, white clouds'.

Just a halo or a full sun dog?

Basically that's where it has little outlying echos of the sun on the rim of the ring. They're really incredible.

Just a halo, which turns out to be one of the most common visual effects. It was still pretty beautiful - it was a really bright, colorful one, in what looked like a mostly clear sky with some scattered clouds.

Would you be up for doing two fast sketches and if yes, how much?

I'm going to do something kinda umm umm martha stewart? (blush!) and think about painting our tabletops. Your style works great for large flat pieces of color. I would fuck and play with anything we worked out, and it is no use asking you to color it 'cus even if I could color match I'd probably want to fuck with that too. But I'd love to have your lack of outlines as a base (read force me to not be so damn linear) for me to riff off of. Up for it? I was thinking a sun and a moon, or mebbe dragonflies. Cliche for us, I know. But hell, its cliche FOR US.

Much love even if you tell me Hell NO.

According to some research, a 'sun dog' is a certain specific kind of truncated halo - two points nearly as bright as the sun, to its sides. This was a rainbow rung circling it the sun when it was way up near the zenith.

But 'sun dog' was my first thought as what to call it, too. Turns out there's a complicated taxonomy of Funky Visual Effects In The Sky!!

yes, pretty. I dragged Nick out to see it.
