Kin: "Okay, woman. Draw me a dragon hypnotizing a unicorn. And the unicorn's gotta have swirly eyes. And be absent-mindedly putting handcuffs on herself. And sitting on a cheesecake. On an alien planet. With rayguns. And the feet of the Statue of Liberty behind her. Because you did it! You finally did it! You damn dirty dragon!"

It's a little bit of rubber and metal to solve the problem of a plug that wants grounding when all the outlets in range are ungrounded.

According to the copy in a recent brochure I read, this problem is supposedly "solved" by the use of polarized plugs.

Which doesn't explain why desktop computers still use three-prong plugs.

Part of it is probably due to using the same cords for the past several decades (I know my C64's floppy drive used one). Also, it's probably almost impossible to buy a non-polarized outlet now, and if you don't know how the wires need to be attached… I know my great-grandmother's house has outlets that aren't all wired correctly, and sometimes you need to turn the plug over if you're using a fan or something similar.
