fragments (design iterations 1)

I haven't been in the mood to do a sketchbook post in a while, though I've had spates of using it. So, here's the first of a few... Chronological order is not completely preserved, as I skip between the large and small sketchbooks nowadays.

The theme of Further Confusion has been announced: Espionage. I can do this sort of thing with my eyes closed, and really ought to at least get a panel or two in the art show, if not offer my stuff for conbook/other con graphics.
Kin suggested a "Mysterious Briefcase" series of images, and this was something I scrawled out.

The firey coongirl in a boiler room I mentioned in my earlier post today. This is probably related to my current (fire-evoking) hair color, and the fact that my libido got poked at today.

Heroic Space Opera Bunny Guy. This led to a discussion of 'Bucky O'Hare', analysis from memory of how Neal Adams utterly fails to do cute, and a quick drawing of my impression of Adams drawing the Powerpuff Girls. I'm sparing you that.

"Noir comics are easy," I remember saying, before knocking this out in a minute or two.

Here's the 'design iterations' the title of this entry alludes to.
ursulav's Eisner nomination has been a bit of a kick in the butt to work on some of my dormant comics ideas. Not that the Eisner is a particular Thing to Desire; it just made me say 'so why aren't you doing a comic, Peggy?' This one was originally conceived as a series pitch, but comics work too! I've lost nearly all my design notes for it, so I'm going on a few remaining sketches and my memories. It's a noirish horror adventure series, with nods to the Shadow, Lord Dunsanay's early stories, and... other stuff.
It's called "Godshatter", and this is the lead. Her name is Mary.

Mary gets to undergo lots of painful changes. There's reasons for this beyond 'torturing the lead makes for interesting stories'.

eselgeist's school. I went there the other week and was too tired when I got home to actually write anything about it.

"Godshatter" has werewolves in it, too.

The one on the bottom started out as the way Chris had his hair up in a bandanna at the show, and kinda drifted into my usual nonsense.

And re: your IM about the keyhole coon - it came out of some joking about lockpick scenes! Anything can spur porn.

Date: 2006-04-20 03:47 am (UTC)Rik already wants in on the ship design, and I was kinda hoping you could help out with illustrations for some of the species. And of course, playtesters are always welcome, if you don't want to commit to anything heavy-duty.
Mind you, this is all at a future date, once I've gotten the systems(which I'm hoping Kin will help me out with) and story base worked out more.

Date: 2006-04-20 03:15 pm (UTC)Until I had a conversation with Chris about her nomination being inspiring where he got the impression I actively wanted an Eisner, I hadn't even thought of wanting one. It's just that I saw Digger start from its humble beginnings of fooling around in Painter, and go to that; it makes the idea of telling a long comic seem less... intimidated.
