New sketchbook. Bus doodles. All mechanical pencil; I need to get a pencil sharpener suitable for my purse, or switch to the bigger purse I have...

I was putzing around on Taps last night and, in between being absolutely confusing to people without even trying, fooled with re-writing Kalinda's description as a bit of free verse. The results were inconclusive but it led me to do this today. That face close-up is way too cute!

The guy with the gun-arm(?) came first. Then the fetish-gear rendition of Interplanet Janet. Then the rest.

I don't understand why, and I suspect it says things about my youthful proto-sexuality that I don't want to explore, but I feel this urge to dig up some reference images, and draw a sexy fetish porny version of Interplanet Janet. "Porny" being a relative term, given that she had a rocket nozzle where most people would keep a crotch. But it's all in the attitude...

Interplanet Janet, she's a galaxy girl/A solar system miss from a future wo-orld/She travels like a rocket with her comet team, oh/there's never been a planet Janet hasn't seen!

Crappy, but it made me laugh! And then draw this...

FOR I HAVE THE COLON COSMIC

inspired by some Illustrator doodles [livejournal.com profile] eselgeist did of Kirbyheads.

"...there is a kind of — alchemy at work in the space between panels whic can help us find meaning or resonance in even the most jarring of combinations." - Scott McCloud, Understanding Comics (p.73)

This one just had to be chroma-shifted. Had to. Pukey-cute Theeka is probably a bit redundant, but sometimes these things just happen. Kinda "Ensign K." flavor.

Also, I think I want to do "official certified xenophile" cards so I can actually be a card-carrying xenophile. I'd probably use Incubus as the main image and just put some text around it... anyone else interested?

Her Majesty will surely have at least one of you forcibly removed to her quarters and spanked for this. :)

I think that sexy taurgirl would be more appropriate for the card. But I may be biased.

Or the alien/devilgirl laying on the floor. The naughty version. ;p

Oh, I think Incubus is a wonderful candidate. Of course, it even looks like it belongs on a card. Do you think you'd include customizable fields for it, or have it be all the same, not even a place for a name to be entered, or something inbetween?

i think it'd be cooler if everybody made their own "official certified __________"

hmm.. and i -think- that image, cool as it truly is, may be illegible at business card size.. but dunno! go for it ^_^

I've always liked the "Interplanet Janet" song, but I always thought Janet herself looked a bit silly... basically a cartoon Bernadette Peters head stuck on an old rocket! Your version kinda makes more sense. :}

Interplanet Janet = love. You have no idea how often I sing that song.

I want my own 'certified xenophile' card too! (but I'd have to throw some even more kinky stuff into it, like.. an androgynous tentacled robot fishlizard space pilot doctor-of-bioengineering...)

I was singing "JI" on and off half the day after drawing that. Oh, and the version cited as music for this post, on the School House Rock Rocks! cover disc, is what first really got me into the Astro-Men. It is Fun.

SHRR is definitely one of the better cover albums out there. Personally, I dig the history rock ones.

I bought it for the Moby version of Verb: That's what's Happening, but Janet blew me away. That and Little Twelvetoes though I've never seen Chavez anywhere...

Certified Xenophile is a win! As much as I love the 'Incubus' peice I think seeing a xenotaur on the card would be just as perfect. [Or I'm just biased towards Xenotaurs...Mmm.]

I hadn't thought of it until now, but Interplanet Janet just seems right for Puzzlebox (Zip, obviously)--the "updated version" doodle even more so.

Yeah, I was kind of riffing off of Saki with my version. Who was, for a while, a Zip.

The Kirbyheads!

Yes, a fantastic loving family granted superpowers by science and movement by medium quality limited animation! In their world of shiny metal with bumps and tubes for no apparent reason, each one recognizable by his or her unique hat.
