Proper Freelance Procedure: when doing a UI comp that will go to the client, resist the temptation to have sample dialogue in the chat area along the lines of "lol p0wn3d" "Fuck you you fucking fucknugget" "lol asshol".

"haha gotcha!" "Man, now I owe you a pizza." "xtra chz kthx" serves to illustrate an exchange between two players, one of whom is playing via a celphone, the other via their computer.

Even if the first dialogue is probably more along the lines of what will actually be said.

Luckily, no one goes through my documentation in that detail.

I need to add more surprises to my documentation...

You should instead, definetely be quoting a few lines of Shakespeare. It'll be funnier anyhow.
Juliet: Romeo, oh romeo. Whereforth art thou, Romeo?
Romeo: Hark, tis the east, and Juliet the sun.
Juliet: LOLz3r! D00d! u suk!

I seem to recall something about a l337 version of shakespere somewhere...

I personally feel that each culture and language variation has its value in telling about its culture and should not be disregarded, there is just something mind numbing and brain liquidating about the use of language in this respect. My brain has to do too much processing to get the simplest of mind drivel.
I guess it comes down to Effort vs. Value of information within. My brain gets bent out of shape and if this equasion goes to zero, my attention to what is inside does likewise.

Yeah. It demands concentrated attention to get nothing back. In the case of me putting Silly Text into a mock-up, as I was doing last night, I needed to encode text that way, 'cause it's illustrating two people chatting around the edges of a multiplayer game, one on a celphone client and the other on a PC-hosted client; minimal character content for one of the players is actually part of the message in this case.

But I've never seriously spoken l337 or txtspk or whatever variant of hyper-compressed text comes along next. It's too damn much work to encode when I have a brain full of examples of Well-Formed Sentences, and a slight case of being a walking spellchecker.
