"Radio Euphoria"

"The Glass Cat, which Dr. Pipt lawlessly made," continued the Wizard, "is a pretty cat, but its pink brains made it so conceited that it was a disagreeable companion to everyone. So the other day I took away the pink brains and replaced them with transparent ones, and now the Glass Cat is so modest and well behaved that Ozma has decided to keep her in the palace as a pet." &emdash; L. Frank Baum, The Patchwork Girl of Oz

For [livejournal.com profile] postvixen, because she is commissioning a number of images to Tweak Her Fetishes and promised to Share with the Whole Class. Being a Good Girl gets Rewarded sometimes. (I'll mail you a printable-res AI file later, o Tigress.)

Some sketches here. The cat happened quickly, the squid slowly happened over a week. Other stuff intervened.

I'm having a little trouble parsing Hladi's face, but the rest of it is gorgeous. This is the sort of thing that you do wonderfully, and it makes me jealous. :) I love the markings on the Squid's body (as I'm sure Tigress will) and the "floating" elongation of Hladi's body...

Yeah, the face may be a little too... loose. "screaming in ecstacy" is the general intent here. But it got to the point where I'd been looking at it in too many moods for too long, and dubbed it done.

Now I need to draw something sexy from the deep recesses of your mind. Damn. This is the downside of having two lovers - the amount of creative work that has to be perfect increases!

...not that this is actually a bad thing, when you look at it from any timescale longer than a day. <3 ...toss out a few sentences, or remind me of a recent shared fantasy, Mooncat.

Oh, now I get it -- somehow I didn't connect the patch of white at her throat with the one at her chest. I really understand that whole "looking at it too long", yes. Too often in 3D that comes with a side order of "why isn't this WORKING" and repressed-scream topping.

Now I need to draw something sexy from the deep recesses of your mind. Damn. This is the downside of having two lovers - the amount of creative work that has to be perfect increases!

Well, I have ideas, some of them not even involving bodily fluids, but if they don't grab you, don't do it. Postvixen has prettier and stranger fantasies than me. :) And it doesn't have to be perfect; 99.9% of what you do is stunning to Mooncat eyes, not least because vectors beat me up and steal my lunch money every time I try to use them in any serious way. :)

Playing to your fantasies makes me happy!

I've had the side order of repressed scream, oh yes. I mostly got it when trying to wrangle Flash, but I can definitely see the potential in 3D. Gimbal lock...

It doesn't have to be an elaborate seed or a complex one; I think the entire brief for this image was something like "Hladolet and her Operator" and I did the rest myself. And bodily fluids are fine. I never draw them. It'd be an interesting challenge.

You've given me a lot of fragments in the past month, delightful ones. Pluck one from memory and tell me to draw it. See whee I take it. It'll be fun.

You got me tough here, Peggy. It's lovely; colors, drawing where again, you manage to wander in and out of form and flatness with a deft wave in a medium which isn't particularly condusive to such AND there's a sense of humor and creepiness in equal amounts. The only things niggling at me are; I don't read this as a cat at all. It says rodent all the way from the segmenty tail to the longish nose, rounded ears and shape of the mouth. This isn't bad, it just doesn't say cat to me. I love the juxtoposition of the flattish tentacle with the rounded teacup, but I wish there'd been a hint of handle or somesuch so the cup didn't look as "tacked on." (That sounds harsher than I'd like it to, but I can't think of another way of saying it.) I also can't figure out the gizmos about her head. Wait...that thing's not a teacup. What a dunce I am. Erf. It's a lovely image, Peggy, delicate and haunting. Pardon the brutish response. :P

As the model, I might be able to shed a little light on this. Yeah, Peggy's admitted she needs more practice with felines -- dating two would-be cats caught her by surprise! I have to agree with you about the muzzle on this one, but the tail is probably my fault! The original description has it covered in segmented plastic ribbing, "like a construction toy."

And the ears are supposed to be a bit lamp-like. Originally, they were supposed to be part of her helmet, though I like the "Devo hat" look Peggy settled on for that. It looked a little pasted-on to me, too. (I chose to rationalize that as telekinesis. *grin* ) But it wasn't a feature in the original sketch -- just something I read into a random scratchy swirl and she added purely to indulge me! If it's a bit hard to parse, it's probably due more to my demands than to deficiencies of artist or audience -- the whole piece is pretty much an inside joke. _:)

I think what I really love about this image is that it's stealth porn. I keep forgetting, wait, there's really nothing in this picture that's not suitable for family viewing hours. Maybe the collar. But it clearly decodes as an erotic act... whatever the hell is going on. _;)

Thanks for the background! I really hate getting harsh on Peggy (so far, she's only one of two artists that seems to welcome harsher critique from me), but I don't want to lie to her either. It is a lovely picture.

As for the porn, the only thing that reads as inappropriate for me is the flash of pubes. I'm sure that the more prudish would point right at this detail and gasp in horror! It's not a detriment at all to the image, just an observation. The fact that the actual porn in question resides in the heads of the cat and the viewer makes it more interesting than having the tentacles doing their usual Urotsokidoji-thing. :"D

"I think what I really love about this image is that it's stealth porn."

Absolutly my thoughts! I opened this up in the commons at school, as there was no not safe for work type warning, and immediately paniced. It was certainly striking me as way too erotic for public. Then my horror intensified when somone walked right up behind me and mentioned
"Is that a penis?" a what?
"No, its a squid! (you idiot)"`
*shrug* "Oh."

That's exactly one of the things I enjoyed about this. It's straight out of an intimate fantasy, it's drawn with the intent of making someone very very aroused - and yet there's next to nothing that a Normal Prude would recognize as erotic. Why's there some connection between one tentacle and the antenna on her head? Why's she have an antenna on her head anyway? Why's she look like she's twisted in ecstacy when nothing's even touching her?

And for the record, I don't think the tentacles ever touch her...

Heh... when I stumbled across this, my first thought was, "This is what I get for not paying better attention to my friends' journals."

The next thought was something along the lines of, "I wonder if RaverSquid is jealous or just envious?"

You poked at the exact same things that bug me about it still. It reached a point where I just needed to stop fooling with it and call it done. Looking at it, I'm tempted to go put the hat in the tentacle's grasp, except then I'll lose the strong spiral accent of the tentacle...

The subject's response describes some of the reasons for my decisions, too. I really played fast and loose with the shapes in this one and just didn't worry about being "on model" or anything like that - I wanted it to be my own demented visualization of the character. I flt weird doing a pose where the eyes aren't visible at all; I think that's an implicit "NO" when you're drawing Someone's Character - the face needs to be visible! you have to be able to connect with their eyes! - and breaking that was fun.

Creepiness? Yeah. Also erotica, if you're into the right fantasy kinks. And yet it's perfectly work-safe... isn't it?

Oh dear, am I being trendy by accident? Shoot me!

Yeah, I think the original description said that. Definitely anote about 'rough fur', which I was ppicking up on. I only did research for the squid, not for the girl!
