Spiral-face girl.

"Ritual of Silence".

The bg was yellow for a while, and sometimes her dress was off-white. But it just didn't work that way.

Addendum: Seems I'm unconsciously ripping off the Batman Beyond villain "Spellbinder" here - image. Something like that was certainly in the back of my head, along with swirly hypno-effects, when I drew this. Credit where credit is due! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] dv_girl for the name and the image link.

I thought this as soon as I'd seen her, of course, and would've mentioned it except for two reasons:

1) I figured people were getting sick of me jumping up and shouting "That should be a Puzzlebox character!" at random comic books, neon signs, sculptures, trees, boxes of laundry soap...
2) I'd be obliged (compelled?) to mention I'd like to see more hypnodommes on PBX, but I was afraid that would sound a little cliche for a spiral-faced woman without more development -- and at the time, somehow, my mind was a blank. O:)

Some things don't need more development beforehand. If I bounced miss Ritual of Silence off of personages like the Hydra Network, Untitled, Roque, Besax, and Rezeya, who knows what'd emerge as her motives? Malignant, mysterious, or even just nice? Something probably would, and she'd end up involved in some long, weird plot, more than likely.

Hell, maybe she's just a hypno-domme poseur. She's got the look down, she's got the moves, but when spirals start turning and lights start flashing and wills start bending, she gets all nervous and runs off...

Someday I must put you in the same place as a couple of my filled-up sketchbooks and see how frequently you say "This should be a Puzzlebox character!" when looking through them. Maybe just give you a pad of Post-its and see how festooned the books end up being. *giggle*

It would be neat to see somebody with the requisite set of powers -- or the potential to develop them, or the appearance of them -- but not the factory-issue personality to go with them, nor the actual ability to put 'em into use...

Yeah. Kalinda used to regularly have people reacting to her by going "Oh no! A snake! Please don't hypnotize me and work your evil whims on me, I'm so helpless!", and the thing is, she really had no interest in it. The one time I did a real mind-fuck scene with her, she ended up just as hypnotized and lost as the other person. She has the capacity to bend the OOCly-willing to her will, but would rather not, for the most part.

Built as a hypno-weapon, wrong personality core?

Powers-not-used is a pretty common theme around Puzzlebox...

So then, what would be the deal with the seven? :)
