We just watched the first episode of the new Doctor Who series. I feel like a giddy teenager again! Armies of mannequins and Evil Plastic from Space and the butchest Doctor ever. I mean, he looks punk.

I was never into Trek when I was a kid. Trek coming back again and again wasn't something I cared about. But Doctor Who... yeah. There's a lot of energy in the first episode of the new series: it's a little awkward, but you can tell that everyone involved is just delighted to be working on, you know, Doctor Who. It's cheesy, it's cheap, and I don't care because it's Doctor fucking Who and it's okay if the effects are silly and the plot a little dopey because the show's just fun.

Daleks and Cybermen and the good ol' Sonic Screwdriver looking tackier than ever and costume dramas and in-jokes and who knows what else they'll bring back if the show goes for more than a season? Think we'll see the Master return? Oh, I'm going all fangirl in a way I haven't in ages.

I dread the prospect of a flood of "this is my Doctor's Companion fan character" and "this is my Galifreyan character", but, um, I kinda want to participate in that, just a little. HOT GALIFREYAN PORN AHOY!

The old Doctor Who is <3, and the new Doctor Who is <3 <3.

But then, I've developed a crush on Eggleston. O, middle-aged British men.

I love particularily that they kept the old-school theme song. So Awesome.

The little pre-show promo thing I saw promised Dalek bondage in future episodes. SO HOT.

Sammi and I have been humming bits of the theme at each other all evening and reveling in our geekiness!

I'm describing it from the point of view of a pervert, of course. But there was this little preview of the season I saw, that had clips from later episodes, and there's an episode that involves a Dalek that's held down with big heavy iron chains.

"Dalek bondage!" someone exclaimed at that. Possibly me.

There was another brief shot of a bunch of people in gas-masks lurching towards the camera, with the TARDIS in the background.

Some of my kinks came from shows like this, directly or via my friends...

Your name was taking in vain this evening... we finally sat down to watch some of the B7 discs you sent and they were scratched. Wah! It probably happened while they were sitting around stacked five in one case without me realizing it, to be honest.

But still. Avon snark! Yay! <3

I think Stacey thinks Villa is much cuter than Avon. Silly.

They were ALL scratched? Seems HIGHLY unlikely... I know I tried those discs out before sending them too.

BTW, if you can find it, use Novus plastic polish for bottom scratches. The stuff works wonders on light plastics (but isn't recommended for use against Autons!)

And actually, it was weird. I felt like I was squealing with fannish delight in a way I never did when I was a kid watching the show. This is an adult, deleriously parodying fannish behavior while indulging in it at the same time.

Sounds of running.

Dr Who: "Hello there. What's your name?"

"Umm. Robert."

Dr Who: "Robert. What a fine name. Now Robert...RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!"

The show could be so exuberant and full of life. Watching it is like being home again.

Though the Autons ranks up there as the most silly monsters ever made -;)

Wow. I was able to make glorpy ear salad within seconds.

The sad thing is that I was guessing which eras of the show the sounds were extracted from.

Trouble is, the best-known versions of the theme were done in three completely different keys, so ear salad is pretty much inevitable...

We just had a little screening party at our place, and everybody loved it. Even our roommate who'd never seen it before ("Isn't he supposed to have a scarf?") was entertained.

And then it was off to bed, wherupon we all spent about ten minutes jumping out and scaring the bejesus out of each other in the dark hallway downstairs.

I've been glued to the Outpost Gallifrey site all week, myself. Have a look at the pub shot of Yasmin Bannerman as a Tree Person in episode 2 - y'know, there's something oddly familiar about the shape of her head...

I'd intended to get some 'real' work done this evening, but I think I may just putter around on that cover version of the theme. :D

Oooh, an escaped Topiarist. Hmm. New faction!

I went to the store dressed in a stab at my version of Gallifreyan-on-Earth fashion. It was deliciously atrocious. I was dumb enough to suggest that Sammi take a photo, but I shall not be posting it.

I just know that the whole series is going to tickle the edge of my kinks. I feel so... easy.

We saw the pilot a few weeks back when it got leaked into internetland. It's currently getting quite a bit of a push from the Beeb, and the choice of Doctor was pretty much perfect. It's like the Matrix meets EastEnders on a budget of fifty pence… wonderful!
