Some photos were taken last night. One made its way to me. A couple others may turn up, may not. They'll get added here.

Myself and [livejournal.com profile] ultraken. I think it's pretty obvious who's who? And who has a quicker "oh, I am being photographed, smile!" reaction.

I should've worn a bra. I'm lazy that way.

I also really need to dye my hair again.

Haha, that deer-in-headlights look.

Ooh! I want to get my hair a dark blue before FC. Do you have any pointers? And by pointers I mean warnings. (is rank amateur)

Oof. [profile] protocat tells me that the reason my dyejob faded so fast after AC (and never really took so well in the first place) is that blue is the really tough one, and purple can also fade fast. Blue apparently fades fast. Quality varies drastically by brand, so ask around before you choose a brand and get some advice on how long other people have had to leave theirs in to get a good effect. (Hint: SFX "Joyride" purple washes right out. I had a neat purple-and-gold effect for the con, and then it was all gone. Which is kinda lucky, I guess, since I spent the following week in Texas. :p )

Let's see... if I recall correctly, your hair's dark? You'll have to bleach first. If you want it dark, you don't need to go all the way to stretchy piss-yellow, you can leave some tone to it. If you don't bleach first, nobody will see any effect, except for a different highlight in bright light.

If you can, get someone else topply bleach and dye; it's much easier than trying to ensure coverage on the back of your head.

Blue fades fast. Fast fast fast. Faster than anything else, in my experience. But annoyingly, it also stains everything nearby a lot worse than other colors.

I mostly use Special Effects dye nowadays. Avoid Fudge, it's way pricey.

Short hair is a lot less hassle to dye.

Yay! I just, JUST got my hair trimmed. It's short in the front and sides, and longish in the back.

Bleach as in, chlorine bleach? @_@ I've seen some nice dark colors when applied "au naturel". But my hair IS dark-ish, yah.

Don't worry about long lasting. I'll probably do it just before the con, once I get it right. :>

There are specific hair bleaches. Don't go pouring Chlorox on your head! :)

I'm told dioxin (a chlorine by-product, iirc) is the most toxic substance known to man.

The active ingredient in these hair bleaches seems to be Hydrogen Peroxide. Which ought to be a little healthier. Yes.

A little.

I am probably shortening my lifespan by choosing to have pink hair.

Well, SFX is sold by veganessentials.com. :) So it ought to at least be eco-friendly. That'll do until I'm grinding my own berries for hair dye. ;>

Go to the hairdye aisle of the drugstore, or to a beauty supply show. In the case of the latter you could even ask them for a reccomendation!

Leave the dye in longer than they tell you to. Don't condition before embarking on the project; you'll want to use conditioner afterwards, because bleach does nasty things to hair.

I usually leave the dye in a couple hours, while doing other things. Rinse out the excess, using some shampoo.

Expect to leave a smudge on your pillowcase for the first week, at least. You'll get colored run-off in the shower for a little while, too.
