Oh, good. I can still kinda pass as a guy - as much as I ever did - with the aid of an Ace bandage.

It's uncomfortable as hell, but I'll be able to deal with it for a few hours.

I was talking with my mother about my upcoming visit home for my birthday, and she expressed worry at me being able to pass as male for the time suffered with my grandmother. It's still possible. It might not be by next Christmas, but it is now.

Peggie, you sincerely have my sympathies. That is a consideration that hadn't occurred to me....dealing with one's grandparents.

Perhaps a loose one-size-too-large shirt with a scarf or the like might help? Just something bohemian style....

Oh, yes, I plan to wear an XL shirt, as I did for much of my adult life. (Not 'cause I was fat, I just wanted to hide my skinny femmy body 'cause it was so unmanly.) I need to play FtM to be sure, though; I definitely have boobs even when in a baggy shirt.

Yes you do, Peggy. Trust me, you might well be more "out" to your family than you expect on this trip.

The plan's to come out to a few relatives, but not to Grandma. This is possible because my family's not generally complexly connected or close. I'm going to be dressing androgynous-femme for a lot of it, not androgynous-male.

Sort of like establishing a beachhead and seeing how it goes at that point? That sounds like a wise choice, if my reading is right.

Ouch! Sorry.

Couldn't your mother break it to her, somehow? :/

Grandma's perpetually disappointed in her grandson anyway. And would hassle my mother endlessly about letting me go wrong (and that my mother fucked me up, of course) if she found out her grandson was her granddaughter.

She'd probably also try to write her only grandchild out of her will, which would suck. n.n

It's just more bother than it's worth to come out to her. Hopefully she'll die before it's absolutely impossible to hide.

Sometimes I'm glad I'm related to poor people.

Mostly it's just inheriting and selling off her house that I'm concerned with. There's debts that'll get paid off that way.

If this sounds cold and uncaring, it probably is... there's not much in common there.

Quick bit of advice... MOISTURISE BEFOREHAND. I know some women who do the ace bandage trick, and it can stretch and damage the skin and give you granny boobs. Let 'em 'breathe' as much as possible leastwise.

oooh, thank you. I'll slather it on. I don't want to screw up my tits so soon.

It'll only be for an hour or two, and I know that the moment we get in the car and drive off, the thing's coming off. It certainly did around Christmas, when I first had to do it, while still just on the edge of being an A-cup...

Maybe you should start posing as your own long-lost twin sister.

You probably don't see it this way, but you have such interesting cool problems.

*giggle* Oh, no, I'm quite aware that there's not many people who have to worry about these sorts of things. And it's pretty interesting to think about the cultural implications of what I worry about, since it's mostly gender presentation issues - which are deep below the surface of most folks's minds. I wonder now and then how weird it must be for my old friends to see me /changing sex.

Fascinatingly cool actually, like a good transformation story made real.

Given what Granny's attitudes are, have you started making plans for a said Christmas excursion? Maybe you could claim to have come down with the flu and didn't wish to pass it on around the relations.

Well, right now I'm concerned with the birthday excursion because it's next month... my breast growth has been impressive so far, but I don't know where they'll stabilize. I'll see how unhidably feminine I am by December and work from there.
