hair color: purple
Nov. 13th, 2002 11:56 pmIf LJ let you put up custom fields next to 'music' and 'mood', I could sum up the main point of this post in nothing but that. But there's rambling to do, as well.
I just got out of the shower after rinsing off the excess. Hopefully it will be resplendent in its 'Purple Rage'ness tomorrow when it's dry.
I finished off what I was doing at work a little early today, and didn't have anything to really start on, so I left about an hour earlier than usual. Came home, put dye in my hair as I'd been meaning to do for at least a half a week, finished reading Iain Banks' "The Crow Road", talked with
tugrik about the rough I'd sent him yesterday. He said he liked it overall; almost all his on-model issues were ones I was aware of, since I drew it on the bus without design reference. (The events listed did not happen in the same order listed here.)
I'm taking this picture in a very different direction from most of the existing ones of the character; this is both at his wish and my own preference. I like to expose a different view on other peoples' characters when I draw them rather than just regurgitating 'My Favorite Drawings of <character>' with a little of my stylistic spin. Of course, if you're drawing Suzie McFuckyVixxxen (apologies to those reading who may be vixens and/or Scottish), there may not be a different view to take... this is probably one of the many reasons I don't do furry art for just anyone who comes along and waves money at me.

Believe it or not, that kind of 'attitude' is one I like to see and hear about. Unfortunately, too many artists-for-commish (NOT artist-for-hire, that's a whole different legal ball o' wax) just crank out the 'my favorite pose' stuff to readilly. =-.-=
Still, here's to hoping the purple doesn't transmogrify to neon pop-idol green or something in your sleep. :-)

Date: 2002-11-14 06:24 am (UTC)Yes, and it shows - just one of many reasons I really admire your art, and look forward to each piece. I wish more people thought that way...
I TRY to do that when I'm doing pieces for people (really just art trades now, when I have time); I try to learn/research/try/draw a little something new with each piece. However, a lot of times I feel like, if I do a detailed pic for Person A, and I do a colorful, graphic pic for Person B, I always worry that Person B will be disappointed (or vice versa). I worry, sometimes, that people trade with me BEACUSE they think I draw a certain way, and they want me to do a piece for them in that particular "style" (if indeed I even HAVE a style...). Eh. I worry too much I guess.
However, I'm completely the opposite when I send out a description to a trader of what to draw - I like to see what each artist can come up with, in their own style and with their own ideas. It gives me a better idea of how an artist THINKS (isn't that a big part of what "art" is?), rather than showing me that the artist can copy a photo well. I'd prefer to see ONE pic by someone who took full artistic liberty than 1,000 clones of the same detailed pic.
