Other random bits: A guy holding a fertility totem over Ken and I and saying something about spring ritual/etc that had the main point of 'hey you two, kiss!". We kinda looked at each other, shrugges, I hugged him, he pecked my cheek. It was quite chaste. Not somewhere either of us has any interest in going. But another point on the "oh, I pass" scale.

Armor/weapon shops, tarot readers, perfume shops, folks roaming about in character. Girls with bodices or corsets so extreme that their breasts were up on a shelf. Determining that I really need more cleavage before I can really do renfaire right.

And I fooled around with Photoshop on one picture I hadn't included before.

This was at a booth selling wall hangings made of plaited wheat; some were quite interesting semi-abstracts. There was a strong Pagan vibe to 'em; the ones I'm looking at were mostly a set of three aspects of the Goddess, maiden/mother/crone. In fact, there was a definite Pagan undertone to the whole faire, unsurprisingly; at one point a pair of women passed by, with a long loosely-woven cloth band connecting one's wrist to another - I presumed they might have recently had a handfasting ceremony at Faire.

Photo, as before, by [livejournal.com profile] ultraken, my cropping and abusing.

Also, note silly new playing-with-transparency icon. Yay for real alpha blending.

Faires are kinda like furry cons in that respect. It's more shocking to find a non-pagan at Faire than it is to find a straight person at a fur con.

That icon is neat, when I clicked the cut it confused me for a moment having changed from the color I have set for your icon background on my friends list to matching my green scheme.
I've thought about doing something like that with png but have never gotten around to doing it

I've got a couple others that use PNG for proper alpha blending - the AI toolbar one I used here is nicely shadowed on whatever background, and there's the one cropped from the drawing Pseudo did of Peganthyrus a while back that I rendered out with anti-aliased alpha channel.

And it's supposed to confuse you a bit! It certainly confused me at first.

Unsurprisingly, PNG alpha doesn't work in IE; I found that out while doing a bit of research on the subject. There is in fact a workaround, but it sucks.

*nod* Since I don't use IE, I don't worry about it. I know there's a bunch of "make IE do PNG alpha right" hacks, some ugly, some not so ugly... google for 'css png alpha' and you'll find any number of them.

<raving-slashdotter>But the REAL solution is to use a browser that DOESN'T SUCK and is made by BEAUTIFUL, PERFECT OPEN-SOURCE CODERS who COMPREHEND STANDARDS and FART RAINBOWS, and thereby OVERTHROW THE EVIL IMPERIALIST MICROSOFT!!!!!</raving-slashdotter>

I'm thinking of giving the not-so-ugly hack a shot, but it's still a major nuisance. Your raving-slashdotter impersionation is spot-on. :)

It looks beautiful in Safari, by the way. :-} But you probably knew that already.

Also, cool photoabuse. Looks ancient and mysterious.

Girls with bodices or corsets so extreme that their breasts were up on a shelf.

Um, yeah.

Remind me at some point to dig up the five levels of breasticles. You'll be amused, I imagine.

Why do I suspect I'm level 1 at best?

I would imagine that would be fairly obvious.

Most importantly - What on earth is a breasticle?

It's like, part of an ice sculpture with boobs.
