I got my computer back!

A guy from the phone company came to hook up the phone again - he said it looked like someone had been doing some other work in the phone box out back, and accidentally disconnected us. And then the phone rang this evening. The Apple Store got a late shipment that included the power management board for my machine.

I slacked around for a half hour or so with the video game I was playing when they called, then bounced on off to the store. Got the box. Hauled it home. Plugged it in, turned it on, was happy to see it start up. Turned it back off because I had to put the 100-gig HD with most of my data back in, powered back up.

The power key on the ol' keyboard still doesn't seem to power it up, but it does work to make it shut down or go to sleep. And now the power light comes on. Yay. But more importantly my computer works!!!!!!!

You left out the part where I went to a payphone on my own initiative, and talked to the phone company for twenty minutes until determining it had nothing to do with our bill, and making the appointment. And the part earlier in the week where I paid the bill.

Hey, if it works, dont fiddle with the broken bit! It's just not worth fixing if its on your own machine.

I disagree with the above statement!

Always do something about it if it starts breaking. Case in point (and recalling our conversation last week) my 30GB drive started heating up and getting louder. One night the computer was on for a few hours and the drive HEATED UP SO MUCH IT SHUT DOWN. I immediately ordered a replacement 80GB drive - and this time managed to avoid losing anything. Plus the 30GB works well enough to back up crucial stuff to, and put up on a shelf.

Yeah. I'm not sure, but I think the power management board may have started to go bad when it was still under warranty. This could've been averted at much less cost a few years back!

Yeah, but you're a mad scientist. By definition you're plagued with neuroses!

I uncategorically disagree with that insinuation! You're just like all the others!!! WHY IS EVERYBODY TRYING TO SABOTAGE MY LIFE?!??

Oh wait, that's not neurosis, that's paranoia! hmmm. Lemme try to think of a good Woody Allen quote...

Hmph. Sorry, nothing's coming to me.

Doctor P? I'm going to have to get you to calm down or else I'll have to apply this electrified leech to your neck, and you know how logy that leaves you the next morning...
