make youtube not suck, step 1: don't use flash

Oooh, I just found something to make me stop wincing every time I get handed a Youtube link: a Greasemonkey/Greasekit script to replace the shitty, CPU-sucking Flash player with a nice, optimized Quicktime movie.

It is probably additionally awesome because I already had Perian installed, so that the whole Quicktime system understands FLV.

(The Mac version of the Flash plugin is a big piece of shit, and has only gotten usable on recent Macs because they have tons of CPU to throw at it. Every time I try to watch a Flash video on my five-year-old G4, the CPU is completely pegged until it's done loading. Macs have never been a priority for the folks behind Flash...)

an idea

1. Combine tricolor LEDs with simple EEG to create a display whose color (and patterns?) is based on the user's state of mind.
2. Make this into something that can be worn around the neck. Constantly, casually.
3. Sell this. Cheaply.

for ease of adoption, the LEDs should be local-brightness-sensitive so they don't dominate a dark room.
