make youtube not suck, step 1: don't use flash

Oooh, I just found something to make me stop wincing every time I get handed a Youtube link: a Greasemonkey/Greasekit script to replace the shitty, CPU-sucking Flash player with a nice, optimized Quicktime movie.

It is probably additionally awesome because I already had Perian installed, so that the whole Quicktime system understands FLV.

(The Mac version of the Flash plugin is a big piece of shit, and has only gotten usable on recent Macs because they have tons of CPU to throw at it. Every time I try to watch a Flash video on my five-year-old G4, the CPU is completely pegged until it's done loading. Macs have never been a priority for the folks behind Flash...)

The flash plugin for Mac sucks? The flash plugin for Linux doesn't even fucking work. :)

The flash plugin for Windows sucks too, but for different reasons.

I will believe it when I see it. I tried the preview of the new plugin and it ground my machine to even more of a halt than normal. Quite possibly because it was spamming debug messages for all I know; I didn't care enough to start digging.
