the unexpected
Apr. 19th, 2008 12:20 amSo it looks like I'm about to go home in an awful hurry: my grandmother has finally decided she's ready to die, and it doesn't look like there's much time before that happens.
This is kinda something we've been waiting for for a while. She's not one of those grandmothers who has a whole loving clan coming to see her off; she was never exactly an easy person to get along with, and after her husband and her sons died, she became a contrary, difficult thing. I can see how this happened. But it didn't make being around her any more pleasant. Luckily for me, I left town after a while, off to California and now Boston.
She still doesn't know about my gender transition, and I don't really think this is the time to tell her. She'll die never knowing about it.
I might even dye my hair back to something approaching its natural color for the visit. She always hated the weird colors.
I'll still be on schedule for the Tarot deck, too; I made sure to have a whole month before the exhibition slated for printing and Unforseen Events. Which this definitely is.
Tomorrow: acquire disgustingly expensive plane ticket. Sunday, if possible: fly to New Orleans. We'll see how long I spend there; it depends on how the flight back works out.
