My Halloween celebrations were nonexistant, in case you were wondering.
Today Hatch came over; he and Ashy and I went out to have lunch (where icewater got spilled all over my pants by the waitress), then went to see the Michael Moore documentary 'Bowling for Columbine'.
The most interesting thought from it, to me, was this: The reason the US is so far ahead of every other developed nation in gun deaths, posits Moore, is that we are a scared nation. Scared of each other, scared of people not exactly like ourselves, scared of other nations... so we buy guns, and keep them handy everywhere, and use them; our news media contributes to this a lot, by obsessively covering the slightest bit of violence in obsessive detail.
This makes me glad the only use my TV sees is video games and the odd DVD or tape. I think the lack of TV news sensationalism in my diet makes me a calmer, more thoughtful person.
Then we went to Amoeba Music and I spent more money than I should have. All but one of the discs I got were used, so I don't feel like a complete capitalist tool. (The list, alphabetically: Add N To X, 'On the Wires of our Nerves'; Amon Tobin, 'Out from Out Where'; Spacemonkeyz vs. Gorillaz; TMBG, 'Severe Tire Damage', and Tricky's 'Maxinquaye'. I was going to get an Autreche album, but Ashy has the one I was going to grab.) Amoeba is seductive. So much music in one place, so much of it obscure and hard to find. I wanted to grab a lot more than I did, but I managed to mostly restrain myself. It will be there in the future.
No art was done today. Perhaps after I eat I will remedy this.
