Coming to selected theatres in America late November: "The Triplets of Belleville". (aka "Belleville Rendez-vous") Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] eselgeist for reminding me of it.

As an interesting exercise, compare the American trailer with the original French trailer... these are almost for two completely different films!

YES!!!

I want to see this so badly!
They translated the songs? Hopefully that won't be too big of a deal.. I heard the film has no dialogue.

I've been salivating at the prospect of this movie ever since seeing "The Old Woman and the Pigeons" from the same creative team. Looks absolutely adorable.

As for the different trailers, that's not uncommon. What may sell a film to the audiences of one country won't sell it in another. The only question is whether the approach taken is best for the film. That you ask this speaks well of you. It means you'll never be in marketing. Count your blessings.

Pretty typical with releases to very different cultures. I'm just hoping that it's going to be released to the artsy movie house near my workplace, that looks like it's going to be quite good.

I can hardly wait to see this film! There's a fantastic music video for the Belleville Rendez-vous song used in the trailers here (http://www.hosting-media.com/fr/virgin/delabel/video/smilrtsp/m-triplettes.ram). I love how they created special animation of the singer Benoit Charest which blends perfectly with the rest of the animation taken from the feature. The producer of the film plays the psychiatrist in the video.

I'm thinking (hoping) that this music video will be on the DVD. And I'm hoping that MTV airs the video as I think gothic enthusiastics will enjoy it -- and it would also give the film some needed publicity.

Wow, I didn't know anything about this until now!
(Yeah, I don't get out much...)
Thanks for all the nifty links everybody, I checked them all out.
It's funny how the US trailer is cut to make it look like an action movie.
(Short attention span! Short attention span! Short attention span!)
Y'all think the nakey Josephine Baker look-alike's gonna get edited out of the US release?
I didn't see a rating listed on the Apple site.

Vive la différence!!

Maybe it's just Mehitabel's phrase "There's a dance in the old dame yet!" Indeed, indeed.

Brilliant film - saw it last month when it did a limited tour of London. I'm half French so I was worried that I'd be the only one in there that "got" it, but honestly it's too insane for anyone "get". It's just not that kind of film. Very funny, a little touching, mostly just bizarre. The dialogue is ... well, there isn't any of consequence, which is part of its brilliance, so there's no dubbing/translation issues.

The film is typically slanderous about America, but it's absurdly done, and frankly it's every bit as scathing about every other personality and cultural stereotype in there. Easily forgiveable, I think. Look out for the car chase!
