So I made a comment on a post in lj_nifty about a new release of some Windows client being able to download and keep all your old entries grumbling about 'someday the comments! someday!'. (This is what led to my recent entry on a vague thought of a way to do such a thing.) Someone replied pointing to a Perl script that claims to be able to do this. Unfortunately the documenting webpage is in Russian.

I tried running it, since Perl is part of the default installation of OSX.

It needed a little module for better http access via Perl before it'd run.

I managed to figure out how to use Perl's 'friendly' library manager. I put 'friendly' in quotes because this is a UNIX command line thing. It may or may not have actually installed the module I asked it to; I've kinda lost track since it decided to upgrade my Perl installation. Without ever saying "hey, you wanna get the latest Perl?". Uh, thanks, CPAN. o.O

Every time I do more than about five minutes of command-line stuff, I really, really regret it. It downloaded the full source to the latest version of Perl, compiled it, and is now running about a bazillion little tests, to work out who-knows-what.

I think this means that I should have my ass on the couch drawing, not front of the computer web-browsing and mucking. I should start some supper, too.
