After the general good word of mouth, I went to see Kill Bill today.

Mostly a thumbs up. Well-done, held my interest throughout (unlike a certain other recent balletic-violence movie so big it split in two). Ultimately kind of empty, but it was fun. Essentially, it was a live-action cartoon. Just enough plot to hold your interest, and lots of restraint to balance the over-the-topness - I kept bracing myself for the 'YOU MUST PROVE YOUR WORTH!' pointless combat in the getting-a-sword sequence, and was so happy when it never happened! I'll go see Volume 2 whenever it comes out.

Violent silliness.

Ashy and I were discussing it last night. I actually was a bit curious if you'd enjoy it, including its animated sequence, which felt a bit like Todd McFarlane does anime, even though it was entirely a japanese production.

Overall, I found it's straightforwardness to be rather enjoyable. It didn't do anything severely grating or even minorly irritating to myself. I don't consider it to be a brilliant piece of cinema, however, these days it could probably be called such when compared to its contemporaries.

I didn't mind the look of the animated sequence because it was actually fully animated. I was wondering until the credits if it was an American studio doing an Asian look.

Nothing great, but nothing bad. Candy. But well-made candy.

Sounds fun. Is it at least spoofy enough to be funny at times?

Just saw it. Laughed. And laughed. And laughed. And then cringed a bit. And then laughed.

Normally I'm pretty ambivalent about Tarantino movies, but this one worked for me.

Yeah. There were a few moments when I went "owwwww" in sympathy with a minion, or started to realize, wait, this is really gory and graphic... am I really supposed to be enjoying this, or should I be horrified?

my name is BUCK and i'm here to FUCK

I'll have to catch it on a Monday matinee, unless you think it's a better movie with a crowd.
