hey! look!
Aug. 13th, 2003 01:38 pmWiggle-vision 3D, no glasses required. Works surprisingly well! And the link to the collection of Burning Man stereo shots using this technique makes me sigh wistfully...

Also, I may have found the most obnoxious banner ad ever. Check it out. Fake Windows dialogue box, and it jiggles.

to help quickly indicate the depth of field.

Date: 2003-08-13 06:02 pm (UTC)Actually, this technique is VERY old, older than I am in fact.
Date: 2003-08-13 06:42 pm (UTC)The overall rate mattered a LOT, as in when you turn it on, slowly adjust a knob until the image suddenly POPs into 3D, but the specific frame-rate was fairly unimportant, as the technique worked over standard broadcast television with a fixed actual frame rate, but a correctly-tuned rate of flipping between the two images.
And yes, the effect worked just fine for moving video as well, there was a couple specials on it 'back in the day' on the news at the time, but they were late-night specials and were just too far ahead of their time. I can dig up references if anyone is interested?

Yeah, here we go... fuckingannoying.gif, FUCKINGflashingbanner.gif...

...and here's EVEN MORE FUCKING ANNOYING.gif.
I think I named those when I downloaded them from pages containing comic strips I was reading. Verrrry distracting. Oh yes, Mr. Advertiser, thank you for pissing me off while I'm trying to do something else. That REALLY makes me want to buy whatever crap you're selling!
As for the wigglevision images, interesting idea... but I think I prefer the old stereo-pair-side-by-side image. I can easily view those by diverging my eyes. (And aaargh it bugs me when people put them together the other way around and I have to *converge* my eyes instead! That's harder for me.)
