Gorgeous. Fucking. Dragon.
But I may be biased.
Quiet sarcastic comments were traded about the plot and characterizations. My take on a moral for the whole film is 'magic is bad': the fairies are pretty much responsible for everything that goes wrong in the lives of the princess and prince.
And, oh, Maleficient's minions are so cool - their design manages to be both comedic and menacing at the same time.

Date: 2002-09-02 02:17 pm (UTC)I really have no thoughts on the dragon design there aside from that it made me think of the 'luck-dragon' from 'Neverending Story', who was also lengthy, furry, and semi-asian. I was there to see cartoon cubism, not anime stylings, so I mostly just twiddled my thumbs through the previews.
They ran 'Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom' before the feature, too, which was cool: the design for TWP&B was done by Tom Oreb, who was also the design lead on 'Sleeping Beauty'. Plus, TWP&B is in widescreen.
There's just something special about ultra-abstracted designs moving around on the huge canvas.
I have this.. Pen.
