Now I know what it feels like to be a Red Cap.

[livejournal.com profile] prickvixen had tried out a bottle of Special Effects 'Blood Red', but was dissatisfied with the end effect - it's a slightly varied red, sometimes a little magenta, sometimes a little orangey, depending on the light. Not the pure red she prefers. I borrowed the remaining portion of the bottle and used it. Not only did the stuff look just like blood on the gloves, I'd swear its scent has an occasional note of that coppery taste of blood.

It won't look blazingly red on me, because it's over the varying pale magenta/blue that my hair had been. I didn't give it an especially thorough application, mostly just worrying about covering up the places that had completely faded. Most of my hair did get touched with it, but I won't be surprised to find faded purple or blue quite visible here and there after the initial rinse-off. It should be interesting.

I have refrained from quoting the lyrics of a certain Rush song. People who have more than one or two of their albums probably know which one I mean.

ooh, sounds cool. :)

Hey, how long do you find that your dye lasts? I've been using Fudge 'Blueberry Hill' for my purple streaks, and since the last time I used it (two years ago), they seem to have changed the formula so the color is different (dark purple instead of a shiny pink purple), and it doesn't last as long (roughly 3 washes now...) Bah.

It really varies a lot. Blue notes tend to fade a lot faster than red ones. I've stayed away from Fudge because it's super expensive; try Special Effects or Adore instead - both cost rather less for the amount of dye you get.

The SE Electric Blue I had in my hair previously started to fade to the point of not being fun any more about a week ago; you can hunt back in my LJ for exactly when I last dyed it.

Tell me about it, it's insane. The problem is mostly that I havent seen anything other than Fudge where I am, but at least now I know the names of some to look for.

*skims your LJ* May 17th... yeah, thats just slightly longer... 3 weeks vs 3 washes. :p
*searches google* Hmm... even if I can't get it here, there seems to be an abundance of websites selling it.

I'll give it a try, thanks!
