disconnection

I looked at the 'social sites' folder in my mail client today. Several hundred Facebook messages and friend requests from total strangers in Egypt. With three spam messages at the bottom.
I have never found any use for these sites, to be honest. The tech media seem to love them, along with kids and teenagers, but I've got no interest in maintaining a database of tenuous vague connections or uploading photos of the parties I've been to. So I've deleted my Facebook and Myspace accounts, both of which only ever existed out of some vague sense that I should see why so many people go there.
Am I being an old fuddy-duddy who is refusing to move along with the times, or am I just being the same antisocial involuted person I've always been?
