Hmm. If I end up doing this Tarot set then I guess it'll be something to publish. Tarot decks need names.

Do I just name it "the Urnash Tarot"? Or do I call it something like "Spiral Tarot"? (Which has already been done at least twice). Posthuman Tarot?

I could always do something crazy like CC it and call it "the Open Tarot".

I dunno. We'll see if I end up doing them all.

I kinda like the "Urnash Tarot".

and not just because it reminds me of things like the Voynich Manuscript.

But that's a good thing to be reminded of.

I don't know. Maybe as a book or as prints... you're cards seem less readable then the Aquarian deck, although they're very attractive. I couldn't see using them as tools.

Others might, though, so who knows?

I find the single cards so far to be sufficiently iconic to be very readable.

They just aren't 'official' in being rider waite knock offs.

Yay!

I figure it'll be a tool for some people and not for others, like any variant deck. It'll speak to some folks; others will see it as cartoony, simplified, and Incorrect.

Me, I'm just the crazy girl who's gotta draw the furshlugginer thing.

I couldn't either - but I don't see the Tarot deck as a tool in the first place. Not one I use, at least. But the fact that people have already seen things in the sketches that I didn't put there means that they're sufficiently dense with symbols to pass muster.

Plus, hey, they're pretty. There's a hell of a lot of Tarot decks out there whose sole purpose is to be pretty.

Being less deliberate about the symbology means that the symbology that's in there is more TRUE.

We'll see if I end up doing them all.

You've got to be kidding. If you don't do them I can't buy the deck, can I? ;)

I love these cards so far, so I hope you do complete the deck. "The Urnash Tarot" sounds good to me, BTW.

(otherwise: "The Shatterstripes Tarot" or "The Shattery Tarot"?)

It looks like I'm going to end up completing this sucker. At least the Major Arcana. A whole set of minors seems like a lot less work now that I've got a 150+ page comic in the oven...

More and more I'm thinking 'the Urnash Tarot'. Egotistical but it sounds mysterious.

The Urnash Tarot sounds quite appealing to me.

Also, I would gladly buy the set, should you finish them -- they're gorgeous, and the kind of thing I could work with. (Mind you, I don't 'work with' tarot in the way most people mean the term; nonetheless.)

There seems to be a lot of people interested in having it as a deck. I don't think I'm going to be crazy enough to self-publish it - but we'll see what happens. I'm just doing the art right now.

I think that "the Urnash Tarot" sound sufficiently odd to be a good name, and it would break the cycle of the decks being named based on the type of animal stuck in all of them, or the culture that was ripped off to make it, or even something as silly as the publisher's name.

Or the pre-Eternal Copyright artist who was ripped off to make it, or...

The best Tarot deck name I've seen is something like 'The Star That Got Up And Walks Around'; it's a bunch of round cards based on Native American imagery and themes. Now that is a title to conjure with, as opposed to 'The [Adjective] Tarot'.

Quite indeed! That name reminds me of the name for the Egyptian "Book of the Dead" for some reason, though I'm sure they're completely unrelated. Mayhaps due to translation from non-Latin based language, which they both likely are.
