I was watching Rik play a cute little Choplifter clone just now. He died, and it threw up the high score table - which was completely owned by "BUG".

Which is, of course, what he's been putting in games since he was a kid.

Me, I used to use my initials* - "PCT". At some point I wallowed in the depths of being a goddamned furry and started using "FUR". I am somewhat embarassed by this now. These days I tend to put in "PEG".

What's your high-scoreism? And why? Are you lucky enough to have a three-letter first name?

* the ones I was given when I was born; if I did that now it'd be "MET"...

I always enter mine as "OAF". I really like the word oaf, and I'm kind of big and clumsy, so it's not entirely inappropriate. It's also my preferred marker for temporary and backup file renamings; where most people would use filename.tmp or filename.bak, I use filename.oaf.

I've generally used XAV. That's an old nickname from back when I pretended to be a boy, back when my friends and I thought Spinchat wasn't a complete shit-hole of an internet chat service (though to be fair, it's where we all met).

Yeah, used to be short for Xavier, because I thought I was cool using that for a character name. Because it starts with X, and we all know that X is XXXTREME. But over time I realised that, while Xav was a pretty nifty nickname, what it was short for was not so cool any more. So I dropped the -ier for ever.

I still go by Xav with people who don't know about my queerness, and I imagine it's still pretty cool. To me. If I were going to be male, I'd use it. And it's definitely a handy high score name, because my actual initials (BLS) are terrible. It's a shame ERIS doesn't fit, though!

There's my life story.

And now I will add mine. I use MEG. I imagine my reasoning should be obvious :3.

FOX. Always FOX. ;)
And I'm going to be a big and famous author when I grow up, so nothing you can say about my choice of high score title can rattle me.

Mine is LAW, which is cool because when I was a kid, I would defile desks and stuff with "Obey the LAW".
I tried using GRO, short for Growly, but it looks kinda dumb.

Once upon a time? Initials. I don't make my middle initial known anymore, but that's okay. Nowadays, I always use E-K. If there's no dash, it's E K, and if there's no space, it's E.K (unless there's an equals sign or something else neutral to use instead of the dash.) The great thing is that this works well in TRON, which only accepted two letters; it becomes simply EK. Some games suck ass, and have only letters and must accept three of them or nothing will be entered. For those, I am EEK. *sigh*

And no, it's never QAT or the like.

Used to use my real initials, CSC. But I usually do a variation on Cobalt, like COB, CBD, and so forth.

In PC games that have longer slots, I usually label a really high score like 'WTF', or 'aaaaaaaahhhh'.

Rez, however, I score as CB and then some random punctuation. :-}

Until about 1987, I used EAB.
Which, actually, does not include my middle initial.
I have an hyphenated first name, you see. :D

From '87 to '93, I used ZEN, from Zenobot, my BBS and GEnie handle.

From '93 onwards, it's ZS_ or Z-S for Zrath-Smiley.

If we're going three-letter Hi-Score, I use my actual initials, "RRR".

If I get more space (ex: 3-D Pinball that came with this computer), I put in "Chella_DATE-YEAR". Ex: "Chella_Jan24-2007" - And since I rarely play some games, putting in the date/year of the high score gives me something to compete against for lack of another player. Apparently, my self from several years ago had patience out the wazoo because I've got some wicked scores (at least in comparison to what I get now) that I can't beat now. :c

CHK, for "Chuck". This is how I would initial things when I worked at the book store. Thousands of special order cards with "CHK" in the initials slot.

Which is odd, 'cause I don't let people call me "Chuck", generally.

Seriously? Huh.

No, it's based on a previous nickname and munged some for style. Mainly, I like the sound of LeDiva over any other vowel in-between the L and the D. And I'm generally goofy for InTerCapping.

I mean, I totally get why people try to parse it, but I swear, it's just meant to be a name. :)
