I had to vote Adric, because honestly he was the prototype to Wesley Crusher. Honorable mention however goes out to Peri Brown, who really just rubbed me the wrong way since the get go and I could never really explain why, and Turlough for being the worst Hamlet substitute ever.
Peri always bugged me more then Mel. But honestly, nitpicking over what was the worst part of Colin Baker era is impossible. Everything was pretty bad, all things considered. But atleast the Doctor never tried to choke Mel to death. Funny thing is, I always liked the Sixth Doctor's costume design the best.

Re: Mel vs. Peri At least Peri didn't try to put the Doctor on a carrot juice diet! I can think of NO episode I enjoyed Melanie in. She had no entrance, no exit, and no reason to be around.
Other: Kamelion. A left-over from a cancelled children's show that never worked right, spent 6-10ths of its life sitting in a room in the Tardis, and finally proved to only be a puppet of the Master in the first place - when one of the other companions was a puppet of the Black Guardian. Did we need multiple puppets of evil running around the Tardis messing things up? No! I say thee nay!
Two words in one irredeemably irritating companion: Bonnie Langford, aka Mel.
But I'll admit, Rose is trying. Not as bad as her mother, at least.. who is, it appears, even less endearing in the Rise of the Cybermen. Perhaps I'll be able to cheer her upgrade to the rank of the Cybermen later today? We can but hope.
Am I the only one who felt like Captain Jack was trying way, way too hard to be roguish and lovable? I mean, he gets the customary points for increasing the lead character's Kinsey rating, but I totally got the Okona Radiation off of him.
