Based on the lj interests lists of those who share my more unusual interests, the interests suggestion meme thinks I might be interested in
1. sushi score: 25
I tolerate sushi, at best. Seafood, enh.

2. science fiction score: 23
Yeah. Too obvious to list.

3. comics score: 22
Eh... kinda.

4. robots score: 21
5. anime score: 20
Gag, no. Although I have decided that any show I discover was done by Madhouse is worth watching - everything I've see their name attached to is actually animated by my standards, and fun to look at. I think Syra first turned me on to their work - thanks!

6. cats score: 19
I tolerate cats.

7. writing score: 19
Kinda.

8. cooking score: 19
I hate cooking. I don't much like eating, for that matter.

9. furry score: 18
I am conflicted about that. I suppose that's a kind of interest.

10. cartoons score: 18
Yeah. Too obvious to list.

11. music score: 17
Yeah. Too obvious to list.

12. bdsm score: 17
*blush* ...yes.

13. roleplaying score: 17
...yes. see [livejournal.com profile] baroquevertigo and elsewhere...

14. dreams score: 17
Kinda.

15. reading score: 17
Yeah. Too obvious to list.

16. cyberpunk score: 16
Not as a consuming passion, but...

17. computers score: 16
I was once, but now they're more tools than an end in themselves.

18. art score: 15
Yeah. Too obvious to list.

19. neil gaiman score: 14
Not really.

20. bondage score: 14
*blush*

I should note that I ran this meme and added something it came up with - mythology - an took off sarcasm while I was at it. And "bondage" scrolled up into the vacated space.

1. cyberpunk score: 11
I wouldn't kick it out of bed

2. anime score: 10
God no... well I mean there are one or two, but I cant identify with the folks who love all things anime just because. (Trigun because the good twin evil twin lets my brother and I debate which is which and Wolfs Rain because those wolves are so brave)

3. furry score: 10
dur

I cant stand things touching my neck... I cant even wear a turtleneck.

5. bondage score: 8

13. genderfuck score: 6
Well... I think I just established I like hermaphrodites. I like androgyny as well, so ... yep.

14. sexuality score: 6
No, I have no interest in sexuality

15. transformations score: 6
Hey didn’t it already list this one?

16. mechanization score: 6
That’s sort of abstract. I have to think about it.

17. masks score: 6
perhaps an emerging interest, not really right now.

18. hedonism score: 5
I want to be a hedonist when I grow up.

19. technobondage score: 5
virtual prisons, chemically induced trances, psychic mind control beams...

20. transgender score: 5
Not sure. I get angry whenever I see some sort of Turkish weightlifter in a dress type joke, so I must have some feelings about it.

Yeah, same here. There's a version of that meme somewhere that lets you filter out Obvious Crap like "music" based on a popularity threshold.

So I tried the meme, and I got a pretty bland set of interests. Martial arts, check, music, check, anime, check, pretty much milpsec 20s-30s slightly athletic geek interests. The nature of the meme itself seems to average things out to get kind of standard milspec interests.

The big exception for me was dressage. That's kinda weird. It pegged that single horsey interest. Not only that but specifically dressage and not showjumping or Breyer Horses or whatever.

1. writing (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=writing) score: 17
Writing is life.
2. furry (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=furry) score: 13
I'm not a furry. Parvati might be, though.
3. magic (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=magic) score: 13
Kind of. My dad's a magician, and I like to read people's cards.
4. mythology (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=mythology) score: 12
Generally, yes.
5. magick (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=magick) score: 12
Sorry... I understand the reason for the alternative spelling, and I am flirting with the possibility of converting to Wicca, but that just. looks. so. silly.
6. dragons (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=dragons) score: 11
*see icon*
7. fantasy (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=fantasy) score: 11
Surprisingly, not so much. I don't hate fantasy, but it has to try really hard to get my interest. Never finished a Tolkein book.
8. philosophy (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=philosophy) score: 11
Yes. Even moreso than science, I daresay.
9. spirituality (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=spirituality) score: 10
See above. :) immortalist/aspiring witch.
10. otherkin (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=otherkin) score: 10
As a category of experience, rather than a system of classification: yes.
11. cats (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=cats) score: 10
Cruel, capricious, carnivorous. Cats. C**ts.
12. meditation (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=meditation) score: 10
Undecided. I sit still enough of the time as it is, and prefer the 'active meditations' of dancing and hiking where possible. It seems to have good results, though.
13. poetry (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=poetry) score: 10
Eh.
14. art (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=art) score: 9

What do you think?

Oh, you're lukewarm on Gaiman too? I picked up Neverwhere and one issue of Sandman, thought they were OK, and haven't really followed him since.

Have you read Moore's Promethea? Now there's an... interesting series.

Gaiman's written stuff is on the edge of good. His comics are pretty nice, but I find he needs an artist to fill in the details and support him, rather than trying to convey it all with words.

I haven't read Promethea, but I've read bits of Moore's other work.

"on the edge of good" but not quite actually good, I mean. Okay but I've read far better.
