I did some art yesterday.

bandwidth:VCL

Me and [livejournal.com profile] rainwing dancing. Whee!

This would have been a lot easier if I hadn't decided to do it in three flat colors. It seemed like the right thing to do, though. Even if it did mean that Rainy ended up solid blue instead of three different shades.

AI over pencil sketch, though Rainy's head got a lot of reworking in AI - I wasn't happy with the pencils.

I think that just one extra blue tone may well have come out nicer, but what do I know? I'm just a kitty, me. :) It still looks lovely!

*nod* A second color would have let me get her markings better, and made it a lot easier to do things like the membranes between her fingers... but being ultra-graphic just felt right for some reason.

Oooh, I like. There's a project like this in 2-D design, but yours is way better than anything I've seen come outta there.

Don't worry, my limited-palette images back in college were nowhere near this either!

I did a cut-paper project (three colors, I think) back then and tried to do hatching on it, to get around the low number of colors, and because I was a freak for hatching then. No, you can't see it. I don't think I even have a copy of it handy.

Hatching seems to become an obession for everyone I know who's done art at one time or another.

Very nice, very crisp work.

*nod* It's a cheap way to explore tone and texture. Plus it repros well on something as cheap as a Xerox. Now and then I think of doing something that's a mix of where my art is now and my old days of hatching, hatching, hatching... preferably involving a lens-flare.

Thanks!

it is teh sexay! I like the fact that Peggy and Rain are inverse of each other (blue wearing black, black wearing blue)

And I like your egypt signature. :D

Glad you like the signature, because I think I'm going to be using it for the next few years!

The clothing color choice is a bit of an in-joke, but it's mostly to break things up. Wouldn't able to see anything at this level of abstraction if clothes matched bodies. Using different colors would've worked, but then it wouldn't have been as much of a challenge!

I like how the undersides of the wings are complementarily set off as well!

VERY nice piece. I especially like the choice in blues; not quite a perriwinkle. It reminds me of some sort of carboard box art, but far too fancy and intricate to ever be wasted on something like that. There are some amazingly small details in there as well. You really know how to make that program sing, lady.

I'm glad there isn't another color. You had to push these two (three? Is that white or off white?) really hard to make them work, but you did.

Much coolness.

The blue is pretty much an averaging of the various blues in Rainy's plumage. Tending more to the lighter side than the darker because it was happier that way, and this is supposed to be a happy image!

Sometimes I think my tendency to add tiny details is a flaw, not a strength - do I really need to zoom in to draw all her little teeth (line, zig zag filter, expand appearance, move top points back into perspective), do I really need to add a highlight to the inside of the hole on the claw on a thong around her neck? (The feathers were not an issue - I made one and turned it into an art brush, easy easy.) But adding all these touches is part of the fun, for me. Hidden treasure there for the careful observer or the purchaser of a theoretical print, should I ever start doing that.

And I do, somehow, see this printed slightly off-register, a little faded and scratched up. I should add a little trapping and do that in Photoshop or something. (Or toss the AI to [livejournal.com profile] mharpold8 and ask him to do it, he's so good at that kind of abuse!)

That's a carefully-selected off-white. Very very slightly cyan. It was flat white to start but I pushed it around a little when I was done. Had to lay a contrasting color behind everything as I worked so I could see what I was doing...

Rainwing is adorable, and my first online friend. But she has been hating me for a while, no reason. She just hates me but I still like her a lot. Nice what you could do in 3 colors tho!

She's a delightfully evil and grumpy dragon. But I'm a grumpy evil thing too. *grin* And thanks.

Too bad, I liked her a lot.

And I am not enough of an evil...
I gotta hang out with you more then!

Good job Peggy.

You have an utterly fascinating style. I can't really describe it - which is a good thing. It's very much its OWN thing.

Wow. If I had half that talent...the most I can do is lame, Sergio Aragones-type cartooning. This is some serious style; unique, bold, crisp, full of personality.

Ten years of practice and merciless self-criticism will get you where I am... laid off and considering a career change, and posting idiosyncratic art to the net!

Or maybe I'm just cranky 'cause I'm going through net withdrawal while my machine's in the shop. *grin* Thanks!
