rainwing dancing. Whee!
This would have been a lot easier if I hadn't decided to do it in three flat colors. It seemed like the right thing to do, though. Even if it did mean that Rainy ended up solid blue instead of three different shades.
AI over pencil sketch, though Rainy's head got a lot of reworking in AI - I wasn't happy with the pencils.

Date: 2003-12-22 01:18 am (UTC)I did a cut-paper project (three colors, I think) back then and tried to do hatching on it, to get around the low number of colors, and because I was a freak for hatching then. No, you can't see it. I don't think I even have a copy of it handy.

Date: 2003-12-22 12:04 pm (UTC)The clothing color choice is a bit of an in-joke, but it's mostly to break things up. Wouldn't able to see anything at this level of abstraction if clothes matched bodies. Using different colors would've worked, but then it wouldn't have been as much of a challenge!

Date: 2003-12-22 11:51 am (UTC)I'm glad there isn't another color. You had to push these two (three? Is that white or off white?) really hard to make them work, but you did.
Much coolness.

Date: 2003-12-22 01:13 pm (UTC)Sometimes I think my tendency to add tiny details is a flaw, not a strength - do I really need to zoom in to draw all her little teeth (line, zig zag filter, expand appearance, move top points back into perspective), do I really need to add a highlight to the inside of the hole on the claw on a thong around her neck? (The feathers were not an issue - I made one and turned it into an art brush, easy easy.) But adding all these touches is part of the fun, for me. Hidden treasure there for the careful observer or the purchaser of a theoretical print, should I ever start doing that.
And I do, somehow, see this printed slightly off-register, a little faded and scratched up. I should add a little trapping and do that in Photoshop or something. (Or toss the AI to
That's a carefully-selected off-white. Very very slightly cyan. It was flat white to start but I pushed it around a little when I was done. Had to lay a contrasting color behind everything as I worked so I could see what I was doing...
