We *just* got back from seeing "Incredible". It's fun! Gratuitous violence? Um, it's a *sixties spy film* at its heart. There WILL be explosions. I really can't see it being nightmare-inducing. If you can have fun at an old James Bond movie you'll enjoy "Incredibles". It was probably noted for having "gratuitous violence" because it's a *PG* movie. But ALL cartoons are for KIDS so there CAN'T be any violence at ALL. There are robots exploding, a few minions being thrown to their probably death (not dwelled on), and the villain ends up quite dead - but it's just offscreen.
(Yes, it's about superheros. The direction, score, design, and attitudes are all sixties spy flick - and the end credits are BEAUTIFULLY period.)
So: fun. I liked it. It was fun to watch. No animation tech details because the story was gripping enough to make me not care - but the animation was nice. Lovely lovely hair.
One bit was interesting, where the villain was ranting about spreading his super-gizmos to everyone so nobody is Special any more. I'm all for tech making everything cooler. Just not with that attitude...
Any thoughts on "The Incredibles" and "Polar Express"? The T-P review of Incredibles was intriguing. Parts of it sound like fun, but he talked about the gratuitious violence and that sounded like it gets close to the edge of the stuff that gives me nightmares.
