more LJ friends analysis
Jun. 29th, 2004 10:13 amMore friends-list-analysis stuff. This one finds "cliques" - subgroups of mutual friends relationships. It only outputs the largest one it finds, but it didn't find one single "core" group for me.
It's interesting to compare this with the Mind Map visualization of the same data from a little while back. I think all of these friend relationships were valid at the time that was generated.
What I see in both is an 'edge-of-furry artists' clustering, and a 'genderqueer/freaky edge-of-furry' one. Interestingly enough, this version sort of emphasizes the former by the fact that the same four or so people pop up with different companions (mostly a me/
kattything axis), while the MindMap emphasized the latter,
postvixen-centric one because they were all drawn closer to my name. They're both going off the same data - mutual LJ-friending - and getting interestingly-different results.
ps. To clean up the ugly expanded LJ info tags this script generates, you can replace <a href.*?users.*?<b>(.{,30})</b></a> with <lj user="\1">, if you have a text editor capable of doing 'regex-style' search-and-replace - it may also be called 'grep-like' or some such. Regex is a pain!
And now, I must bleach my hair into submission, fill out some unemployment stuff, and render some Flash crap into Quicktime to chase some of the leads I got this past Saturday.

Date: 2004-06-29 10:58 am (UTC)I appear in 8 of your clusters, but rank #44 on posts. But from my perspective, out of all the people who did that whole 'list of commenters' thing on my friends list - yours if the first list I've even shown up in.
