Well. That was worth going to. Three job leads. One I'd known about but other stuff got in the way of chasing, and was afraid was evaporating - turns out it hasn't. I guess I qualify as more of an Animation Industry Insider than I realize, or something.
Also, I was very glad that Jorge wasn't pissed about my performance on "Pepe" - which got the axe because, well, it's a show about manliness, and about ethnicity, and, well, Latino boys just don't have cable, not enough to make a show that targets 'em yet. Bummer. But he (and other people) told me that when people see the pilot, they invariably seem to compliment the animation in my scenes. So that's cool.
Also, I think that more people in animation are reading this than let on. I know there's one now-and-then anonymous commenter who says they're an older woman, whose IP addresses suggest she works at Dreamworks sometimes... but there're other people watching who haven't come out and said anything. I wonder if anyone I talked to today who knew me already hadn't heard I'm changing genders. I've posted photos of myself in dresses, knowing in the back of my mind that various people have made reference to knowing about this.
Well, I don't think Amid reads this and knew, because he did a great double-take at my profile. I could see the "oh, that's Paul... MY GOD HE HAS TITS" thought bubbles.
If you're one of those anonymous contemporary animation geeks, I'd love it if you'd drop an anonymous comment and own up (with name, or with cryptic allusions to yourself), or email me - peganthyrus at rdwarf.com. I want to know if there's anyone I know professionally who doesn't know about this LJ and its contents... I'm a lot more interesting when I don't have to worry about not acting girly.

As for Amid, he was talking about how you didn't look good as male or female. Then again, this was coming from a man who looked like a pimp at boot camp...

Date: 2004-07-18 07:41 pm (UTC)I've never met you or worked with you-yet; if I do in future, though, I will be sure to walk up(on the DL)and introduce myself, assuming that's okay with you; we're very different, but I enjoy checking in from time to time because, well, obviously we share the same jobs, tastes, [I believed]sex(rare in cartoons), aims, all in some measure-not to mention aquaintances from years of working here & there, and as a result of your drawings+musings, I am rather fond of you. : )
BTW as concerns another, more recent post--I too would hardly think ill or strangely of anyone who spelled out "Flash 5" with post-its saying "fuck"; imho anyone who would is in very much the WRONG business.

Date: 2004-07-19 03:49 pm (UTC)I'm not sure where the point of thinking of oneself as old comes, and I suspect it comes later for people in this sort of job. Though it's aged me in ways I never expected.
I'm sure we'll probably run into each other at some point in the future, unless I completely exit the LA animation world. Big as it looked when I was on the outside, it's smaller than I thought. (And smaller than when I was completely outside; I decided to go in around the time Disney was cranking out yearly features, and there was news about Dreamworks and Fox and WB and Turner all gearing up.) I'm cool with meeting you, vaguely curious@
