Okay. I am changing. I am sitting here listening to impossibly cute and happy Japanese mutant music. I used to loathe this kind of stuff.

I wouldn't want a constant diet of it, mind you - but I want this album. It's so mad.

It might just be that more peculiar Japanese music is starting to filter over here, instead of just their pop. Pop is pop, regardless of the country; I've never been a fan of pop. I like deliberately oblique music.

Also, much love for the fictional memories, everyone. Woo. There's a couple wonderful bits of flash fiction in the comments on that entry!

Interesting, this fusion of incredible cutesiness and obnoxious stomping rhythms. It seems to be an undercurrent these past few years - see also happy hardcore, Mouse on Mars, Aphex Twin... there was a fabulous set by an Anglo-Japanese band called Hyper Kinako on John Peel's BBC show a few weeks back that totally fits in too: chirpy vocals, and hyperactive backing - lovely. (Alas, I recorded it, and then lost my favorite track.)

It's the contrast that's so fascinating to me, I think. I like Shonen Knife for similar reasons - the chirpy little-girl voices singing about candy over punk guitar straight out of the Ramones.

Slick and shiny against raw and nasty. There's an element of that in my drawings, too...

Hmm. Cute happy mutant music. Doesn't sound like anyone we know, does it...?

Could be! I was wondering what sort of music an ex-doomgoth Bubble Doll play, and that does fit. All too well. I just need to come up with a name...

Now next time you draw Twin you'll have to resist the urge to put a heart over the i. You're doomed! DOOMED!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

-Suddenly remembering why I don't drink this much caffiene ususally.

Just for you, there was a heart-dotted 'i' in my bus doodles on the way home.

Unfortunately, I decided to only scan the comics fragment, so there is less love for you than you hoped. Aww! n.n

Oh I love Shonen Knife and Puffy Amiyumi - Long live obnoxious J-pop that's so sweet it rots your teeth out. I made a compliation CD that I actually can't stand to listen to in its entirety at one sitting, it's that good. There's something nice and quixotic about wearing black while listening to sugar.

(And hi, I just recognized your name from seeing your art and had to come stalk your lj now, your art is awesome etc. you know the drill, insert raving fan drivel here) :)

This is stuff that makes Shonen Knife seem normal. No, really. Broken randomized techno with frosting and sprinkles on top.

And hi, and thanks. Enjoy the mix of bus doodles and weirdness and ruminations on gender!
