I put the full version of that bloody-butterfly picture up on Yerf. It just lost all its graphic impact when I cropped out the agonized, blood-gouting figures.
Let's see how long it takes for someone to grumble that it's graphic (violent) or graphic (abstract), and doesn't belong on Yerf. If it makes it all the way down the recents before then, I will be amused, and go nuke the cropped version. If not, I have no problems with the admins tossing it to make someone happy; everything involving that character is on the border between 'that's beautiful' and 'that's really nasty'.
Yes, I'm being deliberately naughty here. n.n
[ Also: Spümcø Day; Jim wants to do a few polishes on the animatic before a Nick pitch this Friday. On the way out I ran into Richard, then Vincent dropped by the studio to see what's up. Strange. ]

Date: 2004-03-16 05:31 pm (UTC)Which is horribly slow on the machines SpümHø has; the shift to FCPro was decreed after John moved up to SpümCan, which had bought brand new machines for R&S purposes. What is cool on a 1ghz machine kinda sucks on a crotchety ol' 450mhz box...
there's been a gore grumble
Date: 2004-03-16 05:06 pm (UTC)I don't think its abstract enough that anti-yerfers would complain

Date: 2004-03-16 07:03 pm (UTC)I do hope this has generally caused more amusement in the Yerf admin folks who get to deal with the consequences than annoyance. The central figure in this image is just not a pleasant character, and generally causes queasiness and discord wherever she goes...

Date: 2004-03-17 01:52 am (UTC)...oh, here's a quick silly parody picture. It's what I might theoretically use for a con badge if I was stupid enough to wear her identity iRL. Which I never would be; she's the worst parts of me with a veneer of twisted beauty to get people close enough to hurt!
Yes, that's her own severed forearm giving you the finger... I'm becoming a teenage girl again, I get to draw cutter characters. But since I'm a well-practiced cartoonist, I don't stop there! I caricature it three times over, and make it my own! (It also helps that the roleplay world Sosael lives in is one in which death is very not-permanant.)

Date: 2004-03-16 10:54 pm (UTC)Yerf! list from my looking at is, is just trying to weed their own brand of morality into art. Nice stuff sure ben when you start preventing the display of worthy piece based on objections of a few or even a panel of judges your denying those who might APPROVE of it equally.

Date: 2004-03-16 11:15 pm (UTC)However, in saying that, why do you and others go out of your way to provoke a reaction from such orginizations? I mean, sure, it's easy to do. I am not sure that causing people to focus on this particular issue is going to be a postive thing, though.
While I have found none of anyones pics very bloody (I daydream worse things), all this is going to do is give these people exactly what they want. THings to shout about, and getting more images pulled off. I am not sure if I'd want that. I personally would like to see Yerf loosen up a little without completely going R+ rated.
All I am trying to do really is to understand why people poke at new wounds, I suppose. I think the effect of two guys kissing, and making them obviously guys (Beards, fatness, stuff like that) would have caused a even greater stir then any of this blood... considering these prudes. Why are you even bothering when it's so easy?

Date: 2004-03-17 01:08 am (UTC)Mostly? It's a damn nice picture, I think, and cropping it to make it Yerf-safe ruined it. Nobody shouted about Sosael covered in her own blood for a few days (it got the usual thunderous silence there my uploads get for several days), so I figured maybe it was abstract enough to slip through, or at least would be amusing to watch people flail at. Which it was.

Date: 2004-03-17 11:42 am (UTC)Two men kissing is an expression of love, and OF COURSE would not be pulled! This isn't a christian group, for god's sake! Just a family-friendly one. I mean, a while back, there was this whole wave of lesbian-themed images coming down the pike . . . and they were all beautiful, some of them really ""cute" you know what I mean? Tender and all that stuff.
I am not a prude. I like nudity, I don't mind gore at all. I look at porn, for chrissakes, I am NOT a prude. But, in the interests of keeping yerf a family-friendly site, I am willing to see bloody or naked art . . . even if it IS beautiful, like peggy's picture here . . . taken down. Don't like it? Go somewhere else.

Date: 2004-03-17 08:32 pm (UTC)Cause considering we have people shooting others on Live TV, more bleeps per second on daytime TV then ever before, the media trying to blow everything it see's out of perportion, and... oh yes, the propoganda and drills on what to do in case of a NBC attack, I think almost anything I see on a art board to be pretty minor, and a lot less dangerous to their minds then what is getting stuffed down their heads right now.
The Gay example can be demonstrated as getting a sever reaction, as a point to www.furries.com can show. (At least, I think that was the site)
To be final about this, I just think that both sides are being silly and reactionary. I still perfer more open archive sites, but I don't mind looking at Yerf. Considering I still hear kids are blowing up dolls with fire crackers, I am not sure what kind of violence we really are looking to protect children from.
