I never knew "A Clockwork Orange" was a comedy film.

You must not have seen the extra reel with an hour of footage where Alex is forced to watch Charlie Chaplin films and starts walking around amusingly and generally being wacky, then.

Now you know! Loved the book, loved the film.

OT-- will you need a ride to FC?

Believe it or not, I haven't decided! How's that for last minute?

Are you departing Thurs, Fri, or Sat? Also, Ashy is halfway considering hitching a ride if I do. Oh dear.

Since we're taking the van, we SHOULD be able to take two passengers. We're also taking a bunch of stuff up for [livejournal.com profile] furtech so it might be a bit cramped, but it should be manageable,

Schedulling will be interesting. I need to make sure I get my shot on Friday morning! And that *and* hooking up with you... fun.

I don't think Ashy or myself will be taking much more than a bag. When you're not dealing you can travel pretty light.

Oh! Even more OT: Some love for your progrock song comics - don't think you read Postvixen's journal.

I just can't see that as a comedy.

Very dark comedy, yes. What would you classify it as?

The conditioning they do to him at the end of the movie is impossible. We had to watch it for Learning & Behaviour.
dork dork dork...

Tee hee, the rape scene. Ha ha, the torture. Who the hell thinks this is comedic?

Well, yes, those were not funny parts. But most of the movie was shot and acted in a way that just said "comedy" to me.

I could theorize that this was deliberate, to make the violent bits more shocking. I dunno. It kinda defused them for me.

In fact, the theatrical trailer on the DVD rather sold it as a comedy.

Evidence for the defense:

o/~ I wanna marry a lighthouse keeper and keep him company... o/~

The film was just dripping with wry humor, black as pitch. :) So many other things, like the sheer imbecile grin on Alex's face through so much of the film... the absurdly officious Britisher at the prison who checks in Alex's things... the stop-motion sex scene... I think it wouldn't have been nearly so good a film without it -- it reflected Alex's creepy hebephrenic detachment just perfectly. Absolutely agreed that Kubrick did this quite deliberately to jar the audience and give it desperately unwanted sympathy with all the wrong characters.
