Well, there goes the money I was hoping to spend on FC, I think. Hauled my machine over to the Apple store in the mall, talked to the resident tech; he poked at it, tried a few things, they didn't work. He thinks from my description of symptoms that, yeah, it's the power management unit. It could be the power supply or the CPU, both of which cost... more. Half again as much in the case of CPU issues. Fuck, I hope it's just the PMU. Which... you know... I think the thing was still under warranty when the power button on the machine and its light stopped working in the first place. *sigh* It should hopefully be ready by the time I get back from the holidays, and the check from the Mouse will, I hope, be waiting for me too. Next machine I get is gonna be a portable. Not as expandable, not as fast, but if something goes wrong I don't have to kill myself hauling it around. I felt so conspicuous lugging this thing the seven or so blocks and through the mall. Buy the previous generation Powerbook, used/refurb; the current ones will probably be at that stage by the time I can scrounge up the money. I'll be going home for the holidays anyway, pretty soon - I fly out on the 25th, and will likely appear on LJ and mucks sporadically from my mother's Windows machine (what's a good mu* client for older Windows boxen? Or... hm, does rdwarf have Tinyfugue installed? Likely! Telnet there and dig the commands out of the back of my head... drat, Terminal's locked down on the machines here at the Apple Store... grab GLTerm off the net, install it, telnet... yes! it does. Good. Okay, I'll be mucking from home, though I only have the passwords for Peggy@FM and Kalinda@Taps handy.). I don't think I'm going to install an IM client on it, though. *grin* So. I'll see you folks in the new year. Enjoy your holidays, whatever your beliefs may be. Try not to worry too much about Having a good Time. This December has been one of the most eventful and interesting months of my life.

Beip. Yes.

Love the Beip. It loves you!

I second BeipMU. It's an inoffensive, simple, straightforward MUCK/MUSH client (not so much MUD-biased fluff, like windows with arrows that print type "w", or "n" for you :) Plus if you type /makali you get a secret message which makes me totally unbiased.

If going to FC is something you really want to do, and money can help, and $50 is going to make a blind bit of difference, I can pay up-front for a commission? You're frootloopy enough that I trust you to come up with a fun interpretation of Makali :)

OK, I'm intrigued, but not enough to install the client just to find out.

What happens when you type /makali?

So it doesn't trigger its own built-in 3D dungeon or anything (like Excel used to), but it's kinda cute :)

Now everybody knows!

Then again, I told you that you could tell whoever you wanted when I was putting it in there, way back in 1999. Word came back to me from another 'since 1999' user :)

I think I was going to originally have it say 'Makali rules!' or something silly, then he provided me with the poem. I think he even chose the color of the text!

The 3D dungeon version only comes up when you say '/makali3d'

-Bennet (the author of Beip, having known Makali since 1995)
