One of several post-mortem compilations of Scott's electronica, "Music for Programmed Raccoons" is a fascinating disc. It's a collection of hypnotic tracks that erupt into bubbling, bright sounds at a moment's notice. Really pretty cool stuff.

And then there's the debatable contribution of one of Scott's many inventions, the "Alpha Harmonium". Supposedly it produces subsonic rhythms that cause unconscious reactions similar to hypnotic programming. This is probably bullshit, but the man did make some pretty crazy sonic gizmos. I sure can't seem to stop listening to the album.

Especially fascinating is track 14, "Buttercup Surprise". It's just backing chords and percussion with a definite lack of anything on top of it. I find myself humming a melody that's not actually in the song as recorded - and it's the same one every time, and it's far more complicated than anything I'd come up with myself. Weird.
