How to play this game:

  1. Go to your LJ user info page.
  2. Look at the "friend of" list.
  3. Count up every time an animal is named in it. Creative mis-spellings count: "wolf" = "wulf" = "wolph", for instance; "cat" = "kitten"; "fox" = "vixen", and so on and so forth.
The animal persona attached to the user name, if any, does not count. For instance, [livejournal.com profile] peganthyrus is a dragon, but the word "dragon" appears nowhere in the user name.
  4. Type up the results in a table, and put it in your LJ. If you dare.

Helpful hint: It may be easier to cut-and-paste the 'friend of' list into a text editor, replace ", " with a return, and set a name italic when you've counted it.
* [livejournal.com profile] draca_serpens counts both under 'dragon' and 'serpent', I think, thus I add one to both "dragon" and "snake" for her.

Actually, my name is a variation of two Latin terms: "Draca", adapted from the Latin word "Draco", meaning dragon, and "Serpens", also meaning dragon. No, heh, I'm not part snake. (But I like snakes.)

hm. I debate if I should remove the entry for snakes, then, since I did make the decision to not count [livejournal.com profile] eselgeist as "donkey" despite it including the German word for the beast. But I think laziness wins.

"Gatcat" is German for "coyote."

I just counted you amongst other people with some form of "cat" in their names. Good thing I chose to be monolingual about the one I *did* half know.

"Gatcat" is Czech for "liar."

Fun game. :>

Now you tell me, after I allowed the French for fox and skunk, and the Japanese for squirrel, turtle and mouse!

I'm not sure if I feel left out, proud to be undefinable, or just lucky I don't count under foodstuffs...

Actually, the foodstuffs were Wootsauce, Zuppisoup, and... Yulicorn. It's based entirely on creature names found in the user name, and the sauce/soup/corn thing kinda jumped out at me.

I (http://www.livejournal.com/users/markpasc/87893.html) decided you were a creative spelling, if that's any consolation. Plus then I had more unicorns than dragons.

Hey, my name has nothing to do with my leonine self...I think the name was even invented before I found furry...but yes, cool list indeed.

But it has "cat" in it! That's the important thing for my purposes tonight.

They're close enough for my purposes. Since I was counting People With Types Of Things In Their Usernames, I figured, why not.

Hm, I just realized you could count double, too: both "ghost" and "angel". I already have "angel" but I didn't put in "ghost". But I'm not going to edit it.

Even though someone with "horse" in their user name started watching my journal in the time between writing that entry and this response.

There used to be someone who was associated with badgers reading my LJ, but his name doesn't contain the word 'badger', so he wouldn't count anyway.

Also that cartoon plays horribly under the Flash plugin for OSX. But most everything does. Macromedia's Mac support is poop.

Does your user name have the word "dragon" in it? Nope!

Oh, wait, it does have "hydra" in it. For some reason that didn't register.
