I can't work on Drowning City yet!

I don't have a scanner that works under OSX any more, and I just hate rebooting into OS9!

I don't have any suitably large paper!

I don't have a drawing table to work on!

I don't have a functioning Wacom tablet to paint over my pencil roughs with!

I have too many video games that beg me to play them to completion!

I just suck!

For the curious: yes, I'm coming close to starting it; the strikethrus indicate excuses I can no longer use.

My planned procedure is to do my initial roughs at 200% of final size, using fairly ordinary pencils on large paper (similar to that found in sketchbooks in weight and tooth), then to scan it and do tones in Painter. There will be no inking involved. The amount of painted detail is still up in the air; I need to do a test page and see how much I can do in a sensible amount of time.

I'm still debating between lettering by hand (in the computer) and making a custom font. I won't use standard 'comics' fonts, as this is not a story suited to that sort of all-uppercase lettering.

I need to spend some time gathering together all my notes and organizing them, and doing page thumbnails... thumbnails are where the thing really gets written, in simultaneous words and pictures. There are script fragments, but they're just quick scrawls to capture the first draft of an important exchange before I forget it.

Eh? What's wrong with OS 9?

1. My machine is dual-processor. X uses both of them without any hassle. In 9, the second one is just so much expensive heatsink. Unless I use a couple of Photoshop plugins, or some 3D programs, neither of which I use.

2. No more new OS9 software, ever.

3. I have to reboot into it, and stop whatever I might be doing already. Rebooting takes a good while.
