Jun. 18th, 2003 09:40 amI don't know why, but fragments of the Soul Coughing song 'Blue Eyed Devil' have been rattling around my head on and off for the past month or so.
Spoon to the lighter to the lighter to the gun, devil lapsed out in a pool of sun. Spoon to the lighter to the lighter to the gun, devil lapsed out in a pool of sun...

Date: 2003-06-18 10:21 pm (UTC)The Jupiter moon, I got disseminated! The Jupiter moon, I got disseminated! The Jupiter moon, I got disseminated! Well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy! And ever since then, I got disseminated! And ever since then, I got disseminated! And ever since then, I got disseminated! Well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy!
I think that 'Blue-Eyed Devil' is about a salesman out on the road getting high, and possibly killing himself. I don't think 'Disseminated' is about anything but how cool playing with words can be. And how cool Raymond Scott's beats were.

Could be worse.
Today's The Daily Bleat (blog from James Lileks) had the same problem with "Theme from Maude".
And last year, the PA system where I work had its Muzak tuned to an "Oldies" station. "Oldies" as in endless variations on "Pot Is Groovy!" and "Get Out Of Vietnam!" songs... (I was a kid in the Sixties. What was so Great about it?)
