Last night we went to a party [livejournal.com profile] raxvulpine was throwing: her annual Goth Catgirl Rave. And birthday party, but mostly it was a Goth Catgirl Rave. I dithered about going until the day of the party, when I dug out this blank mask and attacked it with gouache - I think this was mostly a trick I played on myself to avoid adding 'make an awesome goth catgirl costume' to my to-do list. I was the only goth catgirl whose face matched her dress, (really; I wore a black/grey/white dress with swirly lacy patterns that I echoed a bit in the face markings) though I was probably tied with Nick for 'most elaborate catgirl' as he was decked out in a rubber catsuit, a cat-face gasmask, and red-and-black hairfalls. Which ended up having a few red glowsticks added to them as the evening went on, until we both switched into something less elaborate and sweaty.

I wore my glasses on top of this mask. This resulted in a bit of accidental 'sexy librarian' vibe added to the overall effect, as they kept slipping down the nose. It looked a lot better than trying to wear them underneath, though.

I don't think I've ever danced so much at one time in my life. Nick said I was pretty impressive to watch though I'm sure he's biased; the part of me that keeps muttering about getting OLD is kinda glad I can dance with wild abandon at all, never mind slightly impressively.

Next time I paint a mask like this, I need to use acrylics.
