So would it be art imitating life or life imitating art?

That's life being art.

I think she's awesome! I wonder if she's still alive? If she is, it'd be kinda fun to do some pictures for her, I think.

No, I said swords and I meant swords.

Minimal research indicates that the Ten of Swords is regarded to be the "you fail, life sucks and then you die" card, hardly positive enough for this image. I would suggest the Nine of Swords, which at least references dreams. And the number nine, of course, is associated with cats...

Which raises the question of how much loyalty to tradition is desirable in a Tarot deck that has French cat ladies dancing on bottles. :) This is admittedly in no regard an easy question, and I mean no sarcasm by it. It just piques my curiosity about where the standard Minor Arcana symbolism as we know it came from and how much it's varied...

A fair question. It seems to have mostly derived from the arbitrary illustrations on the Smith-Waite. But it's been around for long enough that tarot users aren't going to unlearn it. For symbols unburdened by old meanings, one would have to create a new system, in which, for instance, this card is the Ten of Bottles, or the Black Cat.

Wellllll...

What does the image of a woman in a cat costume dancing atop wine bottles symbolize? What card in the Tarot deck symbolizes the same thing? There you go. Load the imagery with some details that reference the other meanings layered into the Tarot card and it's done.

(I think the meanings stuffed into illustrated-number decks like the Smith-Waite comes from lots of numerology/gemmatria/Kabbala correspondence, btw. At least originally.)

I think that's a wise choice because that's what I do with many/most websites. One of the first things that can kill enjoyment of a good contentstream is checking out the fora/IRC channel/MySpace/party line, yes?

Also I use StumbleUpon which doesn't require "talking" to people.
